Inner wheel club section - The Rotary Balita no. 729 (September 10, 1953) / Belen Q. Villanueva
In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 724 to 748Summary: The August meeting of the Rotary Anns was held at the DANA Perfumery in Parañaque, Rizal, with Mr. Luis P. Pellicer, president and manager, as guest speaker. An inspiring and informative "perfumed" talk on "How Perfume is Made and the Art of Using It" by Mr. Pellicer was greatly lauded by her women guests. The ladies were escorted around the perfumery plant where they were shown the different stages and the numerous ingredients used in the making of perfumes lotions, liquid and solid colognes. On the art of using perfumes, Mr. Pellicer gave very helpful instructions for effective results in order to create that subtle, attractive harmony. The ladies were most inspired when Mr. Pellicer quoted that "perfume exalts all the grace and charm of a woman; perfume is the fourth dimension of a woman's personality; and that every man considers a woman attractive if she uses the right perfume." Some were surprised to know that 65% of the per- fumes sold are bought by men and that a man re- members a woman's perfume longer than her dress colors. The ladies left with all their gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Pellicer for the very pleasant visit; for the lovely silver-wrapped, rose-topped box of DANA products given to each one of them; and for Mr. Pellicer's gracious offer to perfume Gracia Rebul- lida's house, which made their August 22 Bridge- Mahjong Canasta benefit a long to be remembered affair. In addition, a door prize of DANA pro-ducts was given away. Our thanks to Pompin Anton, first vice-president, who made our trip possible and for introducing us to Mr. Pellicer, and to Monica Balmaceda, same thanks goes to you for giving the inspiration. The following dialogue was supposed to have taken place between an American and a Scotchman walking in the latter's native highlands. The Scot demonstrated the remarkable echo, which returned clearly after a lapse of four minutes. "There, man," said he, "ye canna show anything like that in your country." "We can do better than that," the American boasted. "In my camp in the Rocky Mountains, when I go to bed at night, I just lean out of my window and yell, Time to get up! Wake up!' and eight hours later the echo comes back and wakes. me up in the morning.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
