Description: page 32-33 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 650 to 674Summary: After a two-week lay-off as two consecutive Thursdays fell on holidays, Thanksgiving Day on November 23 and National Heroes Day on November 30, Manila Rotarians got together again for their regular luncheon meeting at the Manila Hotel's Winter Garden. District Governor Fernando Manalo turned the occasion into an intramural affair. As principal speaker, he dealt on the good old Rotary virtues and reminded Rotarians of their oath to adhere to them. President "Ben" Legarda assured the guv'nor the Rotarians haven't forgotten them and pledged that whatever little faults they have would be nothing compared to what they propose to accomplish by the end of Rotary pose year. The Rotarians yawned fidgeted, and applauded the guv'nor when he was through. Special guests at the head table were the mother of Senator Geronima Pecson and the mother of Secretary of Health Juan Salcedo, both of whom have been honored as 1951's Mothers of the Year. Invited as guest of Rotarian "Fary" Farolan, Ralph Teatsorth, Manila United Press bureau chief, who had just returned from the warfront in Korea, was hustled to the head table as special guest. President "Ben" proceeded to ask Mr. Teatsorth to say a few words, which Mr. Teatsorth did eloquently. He said that he believed World War III has already started. He was sorry to say it, but it is the truth. He gave a frankly grim picture of the situation in Korea and urged everyone to do his part to help save democracy. He was given a big hand.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
