Gov. Pons Ponce De Leon's monthly letter - The Rotary Balita no. 755 (October 7, 1954)
Description: page 39, 41, 43, 45 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 749 to 774Summary: Dear Presidents and Secretaries: GREETINGS: This letter is written on the eve of your District Governor's departure for his of- ficial visits to the Clubs of Luzon and the Visayas. The prospects of enjoying these visits are such as to make the writing of this letter doubly pleasant. I look forward to these visits with anticipation, believing that with your cooperation they can and ought to be productive of good for your individual Clubs and for Rotary. May I thank you in advance thru this letter for all the kindness and courtesies that I know you will all be good enough to extend me? DISTRICT CONFERENCE FOR THE GOLDEN YEAR: Place: Bacolod Host Club: Rotary Club of Bacolod Date (Tentative): February 21-23, 1955 You will recall that at our District Assembly in Dumaguete City, the Rotary Club of Bacolod invited us to hold our Golden Anniversary District Conference in their fair city and we have accepted the invitation. In a few days I expect to meet our friends in Bacolod to lay out the initial plans for this conference which ought to be our best. You will be duly informed about these plans as they are developed and finalized. Meanwhile may I suggest that you start pepping up interest in your Clubs for a record attendance by appointing an "On To Bacolod" committee? We want to have a heavily attended conference, where we will open our Jubilee celebration with an appropriate District Program. DISTRICT FUNDS: Since my last letter, I have had a few responses in connection with the collection of our District Funds. Please remember that this year we ought to have the necessary funds with which to carry out our Golden Anniversary plans. Kindly assist your Governor and our District by collecting your share of the contribution as soon as possible and have it ready for delivery during the official visit. OBJECTIVES FOR THE YEAR: We should constantly have in mind President Herb's six objectives for our year as we go on with our Rotary duties. The only way to have these objectives attained is to have everyone of us contribute actively in their attainment. Two months of our year are gone and we have only ten months left. May I urge all of you to consider these objectives seriously at your next Board of Directors' meeting and see how much your Club has contributed toward their attainment? Lest we forget these objectives, here they are: (1) Analyze and study Rotary's past carry on and improve the performance. (2) A 10% minimum increase in your membership and in the number of Clubs within the District. (3) Memorize and spread the 4-way test as the basis for all human relations. (4) An active and worthwhile Youth Project for the year. (5) A worthwhile project for every avenue of service, particularly in the international field with special emphasis on greater financial support for the Rotary Foundation. (6) Every Rotarian - a better citizen - a good example for others. CLUB BULLETINS: Your District Governor is delighted with the num- ber and quality of the Club publications put out by the various Clubs. Keep this up and keep them coming to me so I will know what you are doing and can pass the information to the other Clubs. Recently several new bulletins have reached me and I wish to express deep appreciation for them. "Ang Talisay" from Dipolog. "The Vinta" of Zamboanga; "Cota Wato" of Cotabato; and "Kagayanon" from Cagayan de Oro are among the latest additions to our growing number of fine and readable Club publications. This indicates that our Club Bulletin Committees are alive and actively selling Rotary. A separate copy enumerating the publications of each Club and issues is enclosed. If you have not received your copy from other Clubs, please write them. We wish to see other Clubs without Bulle- tins to try publishing one. to you all! DISTRICT NEWS: More zeal and power. Please note that the Rotary Club of Laoag has changed its regular weekly meeting from Saturday to Friday from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the Texicano Hotel. The Rotary Club of Oroquieta is sponsoring and managing a Provincial Industrial and Cultural Fair, to be held on October 9-17, 1954. The proceeds, if any, will go to Community Service Projects. Here is wishing Oroquieta success in this fine community effort. The Rotary Club of Davao is working hard for the establishment of a Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Davao and has passed a Resolution to that effect. We wish Davao success. The Rotary Club of Cotabato is anxious to get reading materials for its Community Library and seeks permission to circularize Rotary Clubs for help along this line. Please give Cotabato all the help and encouragement you can. The Rotary Club of Dumaguete has lost one of its most active members in the recent death of Rotarian Genovevo "Ebong" Absin. Our heartfelt condolence to the family and to Dumaguete. Our congratulations to Past President Johnny Paraiso and to Cagayan de Oro for the well-deserved appointment to his new position as Under- Secretary of Public Works and Communications. The Rotary Clubs of Lucena and Naga are doing fine work in helping crippled and deformed children by sponsoring corrective operations for these unfor- tunates. INTER-CITY MEETINGS AND CLUB FORUM: We want to improve, not only the quality of our membership, but also the relationships between our Clubs thru the holding of inter-city meetings and Club forums as often as practicable. One such meeting was held recently in Daet among the Bicol Clubs. I am convinced that this meeting was not only a shot in the arm for Daet but it brought the Bicol Rotarians closer and friendlier together. May I urge you to arrange with your Governor's Representatives for at least one inter-city meeting among the Clubs of your group and as many Club forums as is necessary to get your members to know more about Rotary and its program and ideals. CLUBS HISTORIES: Last year, Past-Governor Art urged the Clubs within our District to prepare and write their Club histories. These histories will be especially valuable during this Golden Anniversary year. It is gratifying to note that many of the Clubs have their histories written and some of them have been published in the "Balita", the fine publication of the Rotary Club of Manila. May I remind those of you whose Club histories are not yet finished to have these done not later than December 31, 1954? We are also having a history of the 48th District prepared so as to be ready for the District Conference. Past Governor "Ted" Hall has kindly agreed to write the pre-war part of the history and the post-war portion will be written by Past Governor Emy. Let us hope that all these historical materials will be ready at the time we start celebrating the Golden Jubilee. ATTENDANCE: Herewith as usual is a report on the attendance record of the various Clubs within our District for the month of August, 1954. Please take note of the figures carefully and see whether your Club is helping the District improve its attendance or is bringing down. Our hats off to Iloilo for the fine record last month. Keep it up, Nene; also to Dipolog and Orochieta. Good work, Malx and Maurice. How about Dagupan, Cabanatuan and Laoag may we not expect better performance in the com- ing months? With cordial regards to you and all the members of your Clubs.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
