Inner Wheel Club Section - The Rotary Balita no. 756 (October 21, 1954)

Description: page 11-13 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 749 to 774Summary: OUR CLUB INSIGNIA BY ELOISA LICHAUCO The question as to whether the "Inner Wheel," composed of wives of Rotarians, is entitled to use the name "Rotary" and the insignia of Rotary International which are being used by Rotary clubs, is stated clearly in the decision rendered by the Board of Directors of Rotary International of 1950-1951 which stated as follows: "The board gave consideration to the fact that in various parts of the world there are organizations of women which may or may not be using the word "Rotary" in their name but which are conveying the impression that they are related to Rotary. The board appreciates and applauds the valuable cooperation given by women relatives of Rotarians whether as individuals or as groups in the community service and other activities of Rotarians and Rotary clubs and welcomes the continuance of such cooperation. However, the board must call attention to the fact that the constitutional documents of R.I. provide that Rotary clubs shall be composed of business and professional men and that there is no provision in the constitutional documents for women's clubs auxiliary to Rotary clubs or for other similar organizations of women relatives of Rotarians. Accordingly, the board advises R.I. officers, member clubs or groups of member clubs of R.I. who may be giving official recognition to any such organization of women that they are not acting within the framework of the constitutional documents of R.I. and that such recognition should therefore be discontinued." The above statement of the R.I. Board refers to the use of the name and insignia on the letter heads of our club and also on the envelopes. A similar decision of the Board of directors of R.I was made concerning the use of the name "Rotary" with reference to boys' clubs sponsored by Rotary clubs, so the name of "Rotary" is not to be used by any entity or organization except by Rotary clubs. As a lapel button the Rotary Anns may use the Rotary button as used by Rotarians, but not to indicate that they are members of the "Inner Wheel," "Women's Auxiliary" or other such organizations composed of wives of Rotarians. In view of this, the Inner Wheel has chosen as its insignia in lieu of the one being used by the members, an ordinary wheel with seven spokes is stead of six, and eliminating the cogs that appear on the Rotary wheel, and where the words "Rotary International" appear, the words "Inner Wheel are substituted. --- ROTARY ANNS' ACTIVITIES At the Canasta-Mahjongg Social gathering heli at Mrs. Lagdameo's residence at Forbes Park ac knowledgment is due to Rotarians and non-Rotarians who donated the prizes that were raffled: Pres.
