Description: page 20-22 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 700 to 723Summary: U. N. OBSERVER Past Governor Marianito Lichauco was appointed by Rotary International as observer to the United Nations Regional Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations on Public Information. Past President Naning Bustos was the other observer. ATTENTION, OLD ROTARY CLUBS Following is a paragraph from the News Broadcast regarding senior active membership which I recommend all clubs to study and consider: "Straws in the Wind - Never - since 1939, when the provision for senior active membership was established had there been such a large number of Rotarians changing from active to senior active membership as was the case last Rotary year. This trend is continuing and accelerating every day. Information from clubs all over the world indicates that more and more Rotarians are becoming senior active members. The new Official Directory now on the press shows a great increase in the number of R.I. officers and committee men reported as senior active members. President "Bru" Brunnier - Immediate Past President Frank Spain - seven other members of R.I.B.I. - 52 R.I. committeemen or members of the R.1. past presidents council or Rotary Foundation Trustees and 29 R.I. representatives and past district governors are senior active members this year. "Is your club taking advantage of the provision for senior active membership to bring in new members for the most part younger while at the same time retaining its long time valued members? "Here are the provisions for senior active membership: (a) If a Rotarian has been an active member and can meet any one of the requirements listed. below, he may AT HIS OPTION become a senior active member: (1) if he has been an active member of one. or more Rotary clubs for a total of 15 or more years; (2) if he is 65 years of age and has been an active member of one or more Rotary clubs for a total of five or more years: (3) if he is a present or past officer of R.1. (b) A club AT ITS OPTION may elect to senior active membership any former Rotarian who was a senior active member or who was eligible to senior active membership at the time he ceased to be a member of a Rotary club provided such former member resides within the territorial limits of the club or within the residential territory recognized as the suburbs of the city in which the club is located. "The advantages of senior active membership have been further increased as a result of the action taken by the Mexico City convention whereby senior active members may be excused from attendance requirements by their clubs because of protracted ill health or impairment."
