By: Description: page 16 - 17 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 749 to 774Summary: What is meant by "Service" as used in Vocational Service? Rotary employs the word "service" in its broadest sense, referring not merely to the merchandise sold or work done in any business or professional transaction, but also to the giving of due consideration to the needs and circumstances of the one served and to the continuous practice of the rule of thoughtfulness of others. What is Rotary seeking to accomplish through vocational service? The Rotary club is trying to create in the individual club member two distinct desires: 1. To carry Rotary's Vocational Service standard into his own business or profession, and 2. To create in him an ability to extend Rotary's vocational service ideal in all his community contacts. It is said, that vocational service is considered by many Rotarians as the most important of the four avenues of service. Why is it considered to be the most important? 1. Since we are admitted into Rotary on the basis of our vocations, the immediate benefits of club service acquaintance, fellowship, friendship are really made available vocationally. 2. Vocational Service has for its immediate objective the alleviation of some of the ills of mankind, many of which are due to the misapplication of business laws. If we are functioning better vocationally, these ills would be cured. 3. In the field of International Service, we come upon the problem of business relations among nations, and here again vocational service is the prime factor. What are the differences between "Vocational Service", "Vocational Guidance" and "Occupational Information"? "Vocational Service" is the implementation of high ethical standards in business and professions. "Vocational Guidance" is a highly technical profession used to assist young people to determine. their life's vocation. "Occupational Information" is a service through which business and professional men make it possible for young people to obtain desired information about various occupations. Any activities in connection with Vocational Guidance and Occupational Information are handled by the Youth Committee, which is a sub-committee of Community Service. Why does Rotary emphasize the individual in Vocational Service? A corporation or a business today has both a legal accountability and a moral accountability. It was given by the former by law, and the latter has always been a latent thing which has not always been recognized because we were too busy with the physical things that we thought were more immediately necessary to progress; that is increased production, new development, improved design and wider distribution. Both these accountabilities must be discharged in terms of individuals, and this is the management's prime job. It is a task that is specifically laid upon us by the circumstances of times and we cannot avoid it. If we, the leaders do not undertake to discharge what amounts to a stewardship of both legal and moral responsibilities, no one else will. This is the reason why Rotary emphasizes the individual, not only in vocational service, but in all avenues of service. What is the Spanish version of the "Four-Way" test? Se dice la Verdad? Es Equitatiro para todos los interesados? Creara Buena Voluntad y Mejores Amistades? Sera Ventajoso para todos los interesados?
