Handing a diploma awarded by the Philippine government to a medical man of the U.S. army was Secretary of Health Paulino Garcia. Recipient was Col. Ralph E. Switzer, commanding surgeon of the 13th Air Force. Among those who attended the award ceremony was Dr. Herminio "Hermic" Velarde, Sr. The other day Teofilo "Rex" D. Reyes hied himself to Malacañang and before President Magsaysay took his oath as a full-fledged member of the Nacionalista Party. Reporting on his observations abroad, Luis Ablaza reported a general awakening of Asians to the need for economic development of this part of the world. Luis attended the recent Ecafe trade and industry conference in Tokyo. He is vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines. Congratulations to Acting Customs Commissioner Manuel "Manny" Manahan. He has set investigators on the tracks of shipping operators violating laws and regulations, and has cracked wide open a rampant overtime racket in the bureau of customs. Hall, who becomes one of the directors. Jaime "Jim" Hernandez, secretary of finance, was the guest speaker of the Business Council at its Business Forum of the Air recently. Jim justified the implementation of the anti-dumping law and said that if there were defects in the act, businessmen should work on Congress to amend it. Chairman of the recent city convention of the Liberal Party was Primitivo "Tiving" Lovina.
