In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 775 to 799Summary: Paul Wood, president and general manager of the International Harvester Co. of the Philippines, on Sept. 1 gave a glowing report of "booming business conditions" in the United States before the Manila Rotary Club during the organization's regular luncheon-meeting at the Manila Hotel. Recently returned from a few months' tour of the U.S. in connection with his organization's plans of expanding operations in the Philippines, Woody revealed growing interest in this country on the part of many American businessmen. "Americans are also curious about what is going on in this part of the world," Woody said, "and are truly and deeply conscious of their great friends, the Filipino people." Among the outstanding highlights of his reported American business boom, Woody included: 1. Rising steel production 2. Record employment 3. A "phenomenal" spurt in airline, rail and bus travel business 4. Huge highway construction 5. Brisk homebuilding 6. Adoption of the guaranteed annual wage grant by large industries in response to labor's demands 7. An agricultural production that is approaching the largest in U. S. history. Woody also recounted that he never met with a single American who did not know "a great deal" about President Magsaysay. Paul "Woody" Wood of the International Harvester is shown addressing fellow Rotarians on business conditions in the United States where he spent four months, Acting Club President "Jonby" Carlos is at right.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
