Gov. Pons Ponce de Leon's monthly letter - The Rotary Balita no. 766 (March 10, 1955)
Description: page 53-61 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 749 to 774Summary: GREETINGS: Most if not all of you will receive this letter about the time you begin our Golden Anniversary Celebration Period in your Club. May I ask you therefore to consider this as my Special Anniversary Greeting to you and to all your Club members "Wishing you all every joy and satisfaction that a celebration of this nature brings and hoping that in the midst of our rejoicing, we will not lose sight of our responsibilities as Rotarians nor overlook the primary objective of our Organization!" THE JUBILEE CELEBRATION: How I wish I could join you in your Special Fellowship Program on February 23rd, Rotary's actual Birthday Anniversary! And how I would like to be present at and participate in the other features of your celebration during the entire period! I am sure you will have a grand and memorable time and here is assuring you that we are all united in spirit on that great day! After your opening program on February 23 I hope that you will keep up the spirit of the celebration throughout the entire period set aside for it. Try every opportunity and means to sell Rotary and its Program throughout your Communities so that the next fifty years will bring us nearer the realization of our Rotary ideal. SCHEDULE OF ROTATION OF THE FILM "THE GREAT ADVENTURE" As I told you in my last letter, I am giving you hereunder the schedule of rotation of the English edition of the film "The Great Adventure" to the 27 Clubs that do not have a copy of their own. If you have any objections or suggestions to make in connection with the dates assigned to your Club please see me at the District Conference about it. Please note that the Rotary Clubs of Manila, Cebu. Iloilo, Bacolod, Davao and Zamboanga have their own prints of this film and you might be able to arrange to borrow this film from them during the celebration period when they are thru with it. I understand the Rotary Club of Manila will also have 35mm prints of this film also available and if you desire to have this size for use in your theaters please contact Golden Anniversary Chairman Tony Anton of Manila. Please remember that the longest time you can have this film will be three days and I trust that you will be able to make the most of this excellent film within this period. When the turn of the next Club comes please arrange to pass the film in the most expeditious way possible to the person designated by the next Club to receive it. In this manner we hope to minimize any loss of time during the transit of the film so that every Club will have the chance to use it. The Spanish edition will also be available for those clubs that desire it. It will be first shown during the District Conference in Bacolod and we will pass it on to the next Club from there. THE ANNUAL MEETINGS: Please remember that your Club By-Laws provide for the holding of an annual meeting not later than March 31 for the purpose of electing the officers of your Club for the next Rotary Year and that you are to make the nominations one month prior to the date of this annual meeting: The idea is to give your members enough time to make the best selection. I noticed in the reports that have come to my office that several Clubs have already held their elections and I want to congratulate those who were elected to serve their Clubs next year. Theirs will be a rare opportunity to serve and I am convinced that they will serve well. Please do not forget to remind your Presidents and Secretaries-elect to plan and prepare to attend the District Assembly which will be held in Legaspi on April 15-17, 1955. Watch for more announcements regarding this in subsequent monthly letters. ROTARY EXTENSION: I am happy to announce thru Board action the formal admission of the following Clubs to membership in Rotary International: 1. Rotary Club of LIPA: Admitted January 12, 1955 with the Rotary Club of Batangas as sponsor and Rotarian Anong Evangelista as Special Representative. A symbolic presentation of the Charter was made by Past Governor Art Ilagan in representation of the District Governor last January 23, 1955. 2. Rotary Club of BUTUAN: Admitted February 3, 1955 with the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro as sponsor and with Rotarians Nan Pineda as Extension Aid and Don Tamparong as Special Representative. The date of the Charter Presentation will be announced and held latter. 3 Rotary Club of OZAMIS: Admitted February 11, 1955 with the Rotary Club of Oroquieta as sponsor and with Rotarians Moning Guirnela as Extension Aid and Maurice Baz as Special Representative The date of the Charter Presentation will also be announced later. 4. I urge these Clubs to send as big a delegation as possible to this Conference so that they will have the benefit of the Fellowship and inspiration that gatherings of this kind inevitably brings.
