Studios, at the distribution of awards of the Filipino Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences last November 10th. Manny de Leon got away with four of the major prizes and was proclaimed the best producer for the year 1953. All the honors went to him for having produced the picture "Huk Sa Bagong Pamumuhay". The trophies were presented to Manny de Leon at impressive ceremonies held at the Life Theater before a packed house of fans and top-notch artists and technicians representing the various film studios in the country. *** E. A. Perkins was one of the guests at the inauguration of the recreation hall of the Philippine Match Company of which Consul "Ed" Varland is the boss. *** The Rufino brothers, Vicente and Ernesto, and "Tony" Villarama were among the guests of former President Quirino who celebrated his 64th birthday anniversary on Nov. 16 in his Novaliches retreat. *** A. P. Reyes of the Philippine Racing Club is in favor of the use of movie camera in the races to prevent an illegal jockey winning the race. *** "Ah Pek" Goldman will be one of the judges at the autumn regatta this week. *** Health Secretary Paulino Garcia, and Dr. Mariano "Ike" C. Icasiano have been very busy what with the malaria conference and the clean-up week going on. *** Jorge "George" Vargas has been busy too with the arrival of the Philippine basketball team that won third place in the world basketball championship in Brazil. He is proud of the showing of the local boys. *** Charles "CX" Clark, RCA boss, believes in action more than in words so in the annual gathering of the 25-year club of the RCA he said very little.
