Editorial - The Rotary Balita no. 662 (January 4, 1951) / by “Alva J” Hill
Description: page 2, 26 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 650 to 674Summary: The events of the first half of the 20th Century are now a part of the world's history. The first of the New Year is an ideal time to take inventory, not only of assets, but of our blunders. It is an appropriate occasion to make new resolutions to profit from our mistakes. Looking back over the world's history for the past fifty years, it is easy to discern the blunders which have led up to the present world crisis. They were not inevitable. Everyone of them could have been obviated had there been on the job well trained observers keeping a constant watch on the activities of potential enemies, followed by appropriate timely action. Had the United States of America maintained and heeded an adequate foreign intelligence corps, she would not have been deceived by the long-thought-out and deliberately planned schemes of the Germans, Japanese and Russians. The United Nations forces in Korea would not have been surprised by the intervention of the armed millions of Chinese had a properly trained staff of intelligence officers been vigilantly observing the preparations and movements of the Chinese forces under the tutelage of Russian officials. The Communists today have by far the most comprehensive spy system ever devised by man. Their methods of training experts have been publicly exposed. They are obtaining accurate information of the most profound "secrets" of their victims. In order to prevent further Pearl Harbors it is imperative for the United Nations post haste to organize and make use of equally clever systems of obtaining advance information of the plans and intentions of our enemies, and then to be ready to meet their attacks. To know your enemies and to study their movements are just as important as bayonet and target practice. May 1951 not catch us napping.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
