Gov. Danding Romualdez' monthly letter : no. 11 May, 1956 - The Rotary Balita no. 799 (June 21, 1956)

Description: page 29-33 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 775 to 799Summary: 1. CHARTER FOR IRIGA APPROVED On May 18, 1956, Rotary International approved the application of the Rotary Club of Iriga, Camarines Sur. Its Charter Certificate dated May 18, 1956, has been received and formal presentation thereof will be made on a date to be fixed later. Congratulations, Iriga! Gregorio S. Turiano is its first president and Nolasco Ra. Royong its first secretary. 2. CLUB OFFICERS FOR 1956-57 Appended to this newsletter is a list of the presidents and secretaries who will lead Rotary clubs of District 48 in the year ahead. 3. FINANCE All clubs should by now have made the second semi-annual report to R.I. and have paid membership dues, as required. If same has not been done to date, please attend to this without further delay. 4. OCCUPATIONAL INFORMATION For many years Rotary clubs have been interested in helping boys and girls select their careers by providing information to them about various occupations. Inasmuch as this activity involves young people it has been featured in Rotary literature and otherwise as a part of service to youth activities of the clubs. In practice, however, the development of occupational information programs has perhaps more often fallen to the vocational service committee where there is excellent opportunity for emphasizing the development of high standards of practice. 5. TRAVELING ROTARIANS During the coming months some of your club members may be among the thousands of Rotarians who will be traveling in other countries for business or pleasure. Or, it may be the good fortune of your club to receive visits from Rotarians of other countries. To encourage Rotarians to visit Rotary clubs in the course of their travels, "Your Passport to Friendship'' is now available. Simulating a passport, this publication contains spaces for details of the bearer's record in Rotary and of the Rotary clubs that he intends to visit, with suggestions of ways in which these Rotary contacts provide an opportunity for international service. Copies of "Your Passport to Friendship'' can be purchased for six cents each from Rotary International, Evanston. 6. OZAMIS CITY INVITES Acting President "Casty" Castañeda of Ozamis City club invites all Rotary clubs in District 48 to the induction ceremonies of its new set of officers for 1956-57 to be held on June 30, 1956. 7. INTERNATIONAL GOODWILL Bill A. Brandenburg, governor of District 194, demonstrated an excellent example of international goodwill when he wrote a letter to President Beli Belisario of Oroquieta on April 28, 1956, in perfect Tagalog. Thus, in Governor Bill's Monthly Letter for April, 1956, he calls the attention of all the clubs in his district to the Book Project of Oroquieta-an appeal for one library book from each club in the Rotary world. 8. INCOMING GOVERNOR "ITO" TINIO Ito Tinio wrote to us from Lake Placid, New York, under date of 28 May 1956 wherein he tells us of his initial experiences at the International Assembly. He writes, "The International Assembly is going on full swing. I've met and talked with A. Z. Baker, Pat Patterson and Ollie Oberg and they asked me to greet you for them. "I never imagined that there was so much more to learn in and about Rotary. I am certainly getting my full share of it. I am only hoping that it may equip me properly enough as to make me capable to carry through the task I have ahead. "I am hoping to be able to be back soon and be with you all again."
