The Balita editors had opened on March 11th a contest among Rotarians in the Philippines for the best definition of Rotary and it is hoped that before the deadline of June 10th arrives, many Rotarians in our district will have submitted their written definition of our organization and qualify for the prizes which will be awarded by President Danding. In our last issue, we gave the rules for this con test which we will repeat: 1. Entries should be submitted not later than June 10, 1954. 2. Entries should not be over 75 typewritten lines. 3. The contest is open to all Rotarians in the Philippines. 4. Prizes will be distributed in Manila by President Danding on June 24, 1954. The entries should be sent to the Publication Committee, c/o Rotary Club of Manila, Manila Hotel. There are certainly many definitions on the subject of Rotary and every time Rotarians new or old bring their ideas they emphasize the features which to their minds is the most prominent and outstanding element in our organization. Maurice Duperrey of Paris, France Past President of Rotary International, once said: "Rotary is a universal association of men of good will, of all professions, of all opinions, coming from all horizons, inspired by the ardent desire to serve society and all united in the search for this two-fold ideal: to banish all those things which divide men and to search fervently for those things which bring them together." District Governor Knut Ericson of Norrkoping, Sweden, defines a Rotary Club with the following words: "A Rotary club is the platform where mature men gather to cultivate friendship, to share their experiences and to discuss current problems. Working together they try to find new and better ways of attaining greater understanding among different social groups, and they also seek to further peace and understanding among people of different nations, races and religions. "The possibility of success in these efforts lies in the fact that each club is composed of men from different vocations and various social groups who are experienced in private and public business." Now, what do Rotarians in District 48 think of Rotary? We are anxiously waiting for your en tries which will be judged by competent men in our club for the selection of best definition of Rotary coming from the Rotarians in the Philippines.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
