Gov. Art Ilagan's monthly letter - The Rotary Balita no. 747 (June 10, 1954)
Description: page 39, 41, 43, 45 In: Rotary Club of Manila. The Rotary Balita No. 724 to 748Summary: It is becoming increasingly irrefutable with each passing day and in every way that the work of District Governor is a wellspring of endless delight and boundless joy that, anticipating the turnover of duties come July. Our Year due to end seems very short indeed. On a district level, I am proud to put on record the widespread existence of contagious enthusiasm for Rotary. That Rotary as a living force animates every individual Rotarian is abundantly evident in the record attendance registered in all our major Rotary gatherings like, for example, the District Assembly in Dumaguete, 23- 25 April. To me it is a source of elation to be privileged to work with such wonderful clubs in District 48. DISTRICT ASSEMBLY - DUMAGUETE-23-25 APRIL No more auspicious setting could have been chosen for the incoming district and club officers than the hospitable atmosphere which prevailed throughout the duration of the District Assembly. And it is noteworthy to mention that our Golden Anniversary officers are deeply conscious of the magnitude of their responsibility by their attendance - incoming presidents and secretaries and chairmen of all Golden Anniversary Committees. If for anything else, it offers incontrovertible proof that district-wise we have voted in competent men to render fitting ceremony to the monumental occasion that is Rotary's 50th year observance. The Dumaguete Assembly will remain vivid within our memory. The workshops were certainly illuminating and inspirational. The speakers were outstanding. The skit, "Accepted With Regrets," ably directed by Edilberto K. Tiempo, was effectively presented. The Committee on Publicity and Information was ever on the ball while the Assembly lasted. And the host club was outstanding in every way: in the socials and business forums and guided tours. To each and every delegate from the clubs that participated go my very warm appreciation. I single out "Ito" Tinio (of Cabanatuan) for special compliments for being the first non-Dumaguete Rotarian to arrive and also the first to register for the Assembly. For their well-written pieces, I congratulate heartily all the speakers in the Assembly. SEATTLE CONVENTION - 6-10 JUNE Considering the proximity of its occurrence, it is presumed that at this time you must have made. sure your delegate's card is properly filled out and that the credentials for the alternate are in order. Clubs without delegates must not forfeit their right to vote. Rotarians from other clubs attending the Convention can be duly designated as proxles. Governor-Nominee Pons de Leon, if authorized in writing, can happily serve as proxy. Just make sure that your right as a club to vote in the Council of Legislation is exercised by designating a proxy, if you can not attend. Likewise, it is essential that you go over very carefully the items listed for proposed legislation in this Convention so that your matured and sound opinion en each can be reached. A pamphlet containing them is available for your club's perusal and study. Please make very good use of it. LUCKY PONS Governor-Nominee Pons de Leon and future District Governors should be happy, as I am happy.. over the recent RI ruling that, beginning with this incoming Rotary year, RI will defray the expenses of the District Governor-Nominee to both the International Assembly in Lake Placid and the International Convention. HELPING HAND As a measure of assistance to the new team which will take over direction of your club affairs next July, will you please call the attention of the Program Chairman of your club relative to the bulletin, "PROGRAM IDEAS FOR JUNE." It contains a wealth of suggestions pertinent to the installation of incoming officers from which you may ac quire inspiration in drawing up your own installation rites. WELCOME TO ROTARY Into our warm, open arms we receive enthusiastically in Rotary International, District 48, the Rotary Club of Puerto Princesa. Formal admission will be solemnized on 5 June when its charter will be presented. Rotarians in and around Puerto. Princesa are hereby enjoined to honor our new-born club with your attendance at this historic Charter Day offering. I am planning to charter a plane. for Puerto Princesa. The cost per person will not. be more than 1125 and there will be a side trip. to Calapan on our way back to Manila. Will you please let me know if you intend to join this trip - Manila/Puerto Princesa/Calapan/Manila - and wire, if possible, your reservation. Only 24 persons can be accommodated. We are likewise immensely pleased to announce the provisional organization of the Rotary Club of Ozamis. Details of its formation will be completed soon and we are looking forward to its ultimate inclusion into the expanding folds of Rotary. RI EXTENSION OPPORTUNITY Clubs concerned may be interested to know that the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Manila, at its meeting 22 April, decided to inform the undersigned of the Club's intention to relinquish from its territorial jurisdiction the City of Pasay and the municipalities of Makati, Pasig, and Baclaran. I believe this is a splendid opportunity for neighboring clubs to sponsor the extension of Rotary in the aforementioned regional groups. I await and will welcome bids on this matter. I am ready to help any sponsor. Remember that 328 new clubs have been organized in 16 countries since 1 July 1953 and definitely there is so much room for new ones right here in our own District 48. DISTRICT PUBLICATION The long felt need for a District Bulletin of activities was sounded anew in Dumaguete and I. for one, am strongly for the realization of this organ. Undoubtedly District 48 is a beehive of Rotary activity. Our accomplishments, while distinctly our own, if published and disseminated both here and abroad may prove of incalculable worth to other clubs and districts. It is hardly possible to expect our own contributions to appear in The ROTARIAN considering that as of April 19, there were 381.000 Rotarians, distributed among 8,155 Rotary clubs. all brimming with common desires to publish their salient accomplishments and well-laid out programs of activity. We need this district publication as an outlet for news. As Past District Governor Ted Hall very aptly said we "need to blow our horn." CLUB HISTORY At the Dumaguete Assembly I was painfully. forced to make public announcement of clubs which, then and to-date, have not supplied us copies of their club history. On almost every opportunity, I have pounded incessantly on the need for submitting their club history. Do not forget that Our Year is winding up and it is only proper that we turn over all records complete and in neat order. to our successors. this. 80 yet. Please cooperate with us on I mean club secretaries who have not done so yet.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
