Indicative of the proportions into which the traffic safety problem has grown is the fact that no less than President Quirin himself has had to take a hand in the matter. The President has ordered the Public Service Commission and the motor vehicles division of the bureau of public works to take immediate steps to solve traffic problems and insure the safety of life and limb. In Manila particularly, besides on the national and provincial highways, the traffic problem has become very vezing. " has gone farther than mere inconvenience. It has developed into an actual threat to lives and property. Everyday fatal accidents have been reported and the number of casualties continue increasing. It is about time that something is done. For the job, all hands are called upon. The government agencies concerned must lead and civic organizations as well as the citizenry as a whole must do its part. More people are being killed in traffic accidents than in the war against the dissidents.
