Work Experience

Project Director, Traveling Museum PH — 2016. Initiated the creation of the Traveling Museum PH in collaboration with Cozoz, Inc, a marketing and advertising group. TMPH plans to hold exhibitions on different stages of human evolution that will tour universities for the next 5 years.

Exhibit Designer and Director, “The First Humans Out of Africa. The Journey of Mankind” – 2015. Officially appointed by the Georgian National Museum to be the institution’s representative in Southeast Asia to design, execute and promote exhibitions about the 1.8 million year-old early human and animal fossils found in the Republic of Georgia. Translated scientific papers and data about the Georgian fossils into information that is understandable, even to grade school students.

Prehistory Of Southeast Asia (PrehSEA): Managing Prehistoric Heritage in Southeast Asia Project – 2015. Consulted by the international organizers of this European Union-initated project, which involves France, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia for the creation of a program on participative sciences for the benefit of the local populations, primarily those living around archaeological sites.

Founder and Managing Director, CRANIA Heritage Sciences, Inc – 2014. Created CRANIA HSI to provide a platform for applied heritage sciences focusing on human evolution and prehistory. The company aims to promote education and disseminate information about the human story to the general public through exhibitions, lectures, conferences, field schools and other related activities in using layman’s language based on scientific applications.

Cultural Heritage Archaeologist, Rizal, Kalinga Archaeological Expedition – 2014 to present. Excavates with the team in Rizal, Kalinga while arranging coordination and collaboration efforts with government agencies, scientists and local residents. Organized the first Rizal Heritage Council for the benefit of informing the local populace about the archaeological activities in Rizal town and involving them in these activities. Designed and executed the first exhibition of “The Rhino of Rizal” in 2015 for the town’s 50th anniversary. Translates scientific papers and data into layman’s language for press releases and literature for the public. Delivers lectures to inform and update the locals about the prehistoric heritage of Rizal Town. In charge of the writing and production of the catalogue of the fossils of the Rhino of Rizal for its exhibition at the Museum of Natural History of the National Museum when in opens in 2016.

Cultural Heritage Archaeologist, Callao Caves, Peñablanca Archaeological Expedition – 2015 to present. Initiated the involvement of locals and dissemination of information about archaeological activities in the Callao Limestone Formation in Peñablanca, Cagayan. After 40 years of research in the area, created the first opportunity for interaction between scientists, locals and LGU. In charge of the development of a comprehensive cultural heritage management plan for the area.

Owner and Chief Interior Designer, Oculus Interior Design — 2003-2008. Owned, managed and operated a design company that designed, planned and executed residential, commercial, institutional interiors, as well as jewelry, furniture and store window design, and television studio news and current affairs set designs. Tasks ranged from securing clients, to conceptualizing designs, to making technical drawings and maquettes, to supervising execution and ensuring timely completion of projects.

Lecturer, Philippine School of Interior Design — 2003-2005. Conducted lectures on the courses in Furniture History and Styles and Kitchen and Bathroom History and Design. Supervised the course on Seminars in Interior Design.

Freelance Interior Design Consultant — 2001-2003. Handled mainly residential interior design and decoration projects prior to obtaining a license from the Professional Regulatory Commission.

Public and Press Relations Director, The Manila Jockey Club — 1999-2001. Planned and executed media plans, press conferences, advertising and press releases and corporate communication materials such as the annual reports of this publicly listed company. Supervised PR writers and oversaw press relations.

General Manager, Pacific Sports Network — 1995-1999. Owned, managed and operated a surf-wear company with four retail outlets in major malls in Metro Manila. Designed stores, store furniture and fixtures as well as advertising layouts and promotional items. In charge of buying goods from international suppliers in Asia, Australia and America. Conceptualized and executed promotional events such as surf contests in various surf spots in the country and club parties in the city.

Press Relations Officer, Office of Senate President Edgardo J. Angara, Senate of the Republic Philippines — 1993-1995. Assisted in the writing and distribution of press releases. Supervised press conferences and the senator’s television appearances. Functioned as backstop in the senator’s out-of-town engagements.

Consultant for ISO 9002: Quality Assurance Standards, United Philippine Lines, Inc. — 1994-1995. Researched for and created the first three volume Operations Manual for this then 34-year old company. Obtained for the company their very first certificate of compliance from DNV, an international certifying company, on first try.

Columnist, The Manila Standard — 1993-1995. Wrote a weekly column in the Sports page mostly about Philippine basketball and its personalities.

Anchorperson, RPN 9: television coverage for the South East Asian Games — 1995. Hosted the television coverage of the SEA games.

Sports Broadcaster, Producer and Writer, Vintage Enterprises, Inc. for the Philippine Basketball Association — 1992-1995. Hosted the pre-game and half-time shows three times a week in the television coverage of the Philippine Basketball Association, as well as the PBA Annual Awards on national television. Produced, wrote, edited and scored television features, and conducted interviews for the PBA TV coverage.

Legislative Staff Member, Office of Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile, Senate of the Philippines — 1991-1992. Functioned as a researcher and assisted in preparing materials for the senator’s use in the Senate.

Department Head, Robinson’s Galleria Department Store — 1990-1991. Set-up, opened and supervised the Ladies’ department of the newly launched Robinson’s Galleria Department Store.

Archaeology-related Conferences and Training Programs

Prehistory of Southeast Asia (PrehSEA) Project: Managing Prehistoric Heritage in Southeast Asia, Sangiran, Indonesia — 2015. Participation requested by international experts in prehistory to collaborate with them for the creation of a program in participative sciences. Wrote the paper, “An Urgent Call for a Cultural Heritage Management Plan: The Case of Callao Caves, Peñablanca, Cagayan, Northern Philippines” for the project’s publication and catalogue.

Dmanisi Paleoanthropology Field School. Dmanisi, Republic of Georgia, 21 July-16 August 2013. Participated in field school activities that included excavation, laboratory work, lectures by eminent professors in the field of Paleoanthropology, excursions to heritage sites and a final requirement of individual presentations. Received a grade of “Excellent” from the Georgian National Museum and the University of Zurich.
