President's Corner

The club president reports on the Journalism Awards, the club's multiple District 3810 awards, and the handover ceremonies and events around the District.

Dear Fellow Manila Rotarians,

Last Thursday, 30 June 2016, our Club handed out our annual Journalism Awards over dinner at the New World Makati Hotel. We acknowledged and awarded those who we believe performed the best during the year in review in terms of journalism excellence. We also awarded those who we wanted to encourage to continue to do a good job in the coming year. We hope that our awards this year will inspire others to also improve their skills and talents in reporting the news and public affairs in a clear, fair, and independent manner.

Last Saturday, 2 July 2016, I attended the Handover and Induction Ceremonies of the Rotary Club of Makati West at the New World Makati Hotel, where All Star President Ruy Y. Moreno was installed as the Club’s President on the occasion of its 47th Anniversary.

Next week, on 14 July 2016, we shall have our own Club’s Handover and Induction Ceremonies at 12 noon at the New World Makati Hotel, when All Star President Teddy Ocampo will take his oath as President of our Club for Rotary Year 2016-2017. Please mark that date in your calendars and attend the event.

On news from around the District, last 30 June 2016, DG/PP Obet Pagdanganan, DGND/CoS/PP CoS/PP Cesar Ubaldo, and DCoS/SDG/DE Albert Alday attended the 30th Charter Anniversary and Induction Ceremonies of the Rotary Club of Manila East at the Sunset Room of the Manila Yacht Club in Manila.

The following day, on 1 July 2016, World Class DG Obet Pagdanganan turned over the mantle of leadership of District 3810 to All Star DG Ernesto Yuyek at the Handover and Induction Ceremonies held at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City, where All Star President Teddy Ocampo and I led the parade of Club Presidents as we marched into the ballroom of the Marriott carrying our Club’s banner for the incoming All Star Rotary Year 2016-2017. On the same occasion, CoS/PP Cesar Ubaldo, DCoS/SDG/DE Albert Alday, and SDG Frank Evaristo were sworn into their respective positions as part of the Executive Committee of Rotary International District 3810 for Rotary Year 2016-2017.

Two days later, on 2 July 2016, our Club acted as one of the co-hosts of the Joint Dental Mission Project of Rotary International District 3810 (Philippines) and District 2820 (Japan). The other host clubs for this project were the Rotary Club of Manila Remedios Circle and the Rotary Club of Pasay Metro Sunrise. The Joint Dental Mission project held its first day of operations at Sinagtala, Pandacan, Manila, and continued the next day, 3 July 2016, at Maricaban, Pasay.

On 4 July 2016, CoS/PP Cesar Ubaldo and DCoS/SDG/DE Albert Alday attended the First Area Meeting of the All Star Team at the Aloha Hotel in Manila. A day later, on 5 July 2016, CoS/PP Cesar Ubaldo and DCoS/SDG/DE Albert Alday attended the Induction Ceremonies of the Rotary Club of University District Manila at the Casino Español in Manila.

Today, 7 July 2016, I will be handling out our Club’s annual awards for the aforementioned individuals who contributed much of their time, efforts, and treasure in this Rotary Year. They certainly deserve the recognition and acknowledgement.

Please continue to actively participate in, and support, all of our Club’s plans, programs, and activities. Please continue to try to recommend at least one new recruit for the consideration of our Membership and Classification Committee in order to boost the membership of our Club.

Mabuhay ang Rotary Club of Manila!

With thanks to our supporter
