Update on the Composition of the Steering Committee
PD Pepo Nuñez has expressed his willingness to take part in the Centennial Launch Committee. Further, Rtn. Jun Alvarez has volunteered to be part of the Finance Committee. Indeed, they are welcome additions in our colossal undertaking of staging the centennial.
Dear Fellow Manila Rotarians,
Last week, we were treated to an enlightening talk by Mr. Wilson Sy, Chairman of Wealth Securities, Inc. on the secrets of the stockmarket playing field to the benefit of many of our members who heavily indulge themselves in investing in such a market.
On the centennial front, I wish to inform everyone that the Steering Committee is working hard to ensure that our centennial projects are successfully implemented. As such, the committee meets on a weekly basis to report updates. On this note, I wish to thank all of you for supporting the “100 Years of Rotary: An Art Celebration”, especially, your strong presence during the opening of the exhibit, where no less than His Excellency Sung Kim, Ambassador of the USA to the Philippines, cut the ribbon to open the exhibit, to the purchase of paintings and sculptures. Further, I am happy to inform you that the artists who participated in the exhibit have graciously agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds of the sale to the coffers of our club for use in any of our worthwhile service projects.
With respect to our tree planting project, it is all systems go for the tree planting at the roundabout of Okada Road and J.W. Diokno Boulevard in Parañaque City. This will be on September 28, 2018 at 8:30am. Participants will be wearing a specially designed eco-shirt for this purpose. As such, I exhort all of you to participate in this worthwhile endeavor.
With respect to the Centennial Choral Competition, the committee in charge is closely coordinating with DepEd in crafting the mechanics and implementation of the same.
Today, our “Sari-Saring Aralan” takes off as we undertake the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between our club and the Ayala Foundation to formally launch this innovative project of using sari-sari stores as alternative learning hubs.
On the international relations front, our big delegation to the 88th Charter Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Bangkok has just returned, bringing with them the goodwill established and rekindled ties with our sister club as the delegation invited them and their other sister clubs present at the occasion to attend our centennial celebration from June 21, 2018 to June 22, 2018.
On the local scene, together with two of our directors, Caloy Reyes and Jackie Rodriguez, I attended the 59th Charter Anniversary of our daughter club, the Rotary Club of Caloocan. Further, I presented a Centennial Plate to Inspiring President Domenador “Domeng” Sanidad as a symbol of goodwill towards a lasting mother club and daughter club partnership in furtherance of Service Above Self as I likewise personally invited them and all the clubs and distrct governors present during that occasion to take part in our centennial celebrations.
With all these events happening, let us always bear in mind that great things in Rotary are never the works of a single person, but, by a team of Rotarians working together towards a common goal. Indeed, the best is yet to come. In ONE CENTURY ONE MISSION ONE ROTARY, I remain.
