Helping Rebuild Communities
Donation drive for Typhoon Ompong victims: a collaborative effort of the Rotary Club of Manila and the Rotary Club of Baguio, with 150 relief bags distributed on October 13, 2018.

Strong typhoons often hit the country from September to December. Originally classified as a Category 5 storm, Typhoon Ompong ravaged Northern Luzon, including the City of Baguio. Many residents were affected and were in need of help. Fortunately, with the painstaking efforts of esteemed Rtn. Willie Peliño and with the imprimatur of President Susing Pineda who rekindled the ties with our daughter club, the Rotary Club of Baguio as well as the generous support of Subana Jurong, a Singaporean firm together with the collaborative efforts of the Rotary Club of Baguio, 150 relief bags were distributed last October 13, 2018 in Baguio City. Each relief bag contained one (1) blanket, three (3) kilos of rice, one (1) pack of candles, three (3) pieces of toothbrush, one (1) pack of toothpaste, five (5) pieces of bath soap, two (2) cans of corned beef, two (2) cans of corned tuna, three (3) cans of sardines, ten (10) sachets of coffee, two (2) packs of biscuits and six (6) pieces of noodle packs.
With all these donations going to worthy causes, it certainly warms our hearts to witness the faces of gratitude from these beneficiaries who recognize our strides in Service Above Self. Indeed, a Rotarian’s efforts deserve accolades of a thousand fold.
