President’s Corner

President Susing Pineda reports on the Turkish Ambassador’s talk, sister-club events, the Christmas Party, the Townhall Meeting and centennial projects.

Dear Fellow Manila Rotarians,

Last week, Her Excellency Esra Cankorur, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to the Republic of the Philippines, enlightened us with the present state of bilateral relations between Turkey and the Philippines.

In the International Relations front, so far we have a good number of delegates from our club who will be attending the significant events of our sister clubs. In this regard, I continuously invite you to join our respective delegations to the 49th Anniversary and Fund Raising Ball of the Rotary Club of Kowloon East and the 70th Charter Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Taipei. Attending these important milestones of our sister clubs affords us the opportunity to reciprocally invite them to take part in the culminating activities of our centennial celebration.

In the Fellowship front, the much awaited occasion of the year is fast approaching. In this regard, I wish to announce that our Christmas Party will take place on December 13, 2018, 6:00 pm at the Grand Ballroom 3, Coral Wing Lobby of OKADA MANILA in Parañaque City. For Php 2,500.00, you get the chance to enjoy a sumptuous dinner and the privilege to dance the night away to the music of Marcy David and his Band while having the chance to win exciting raffle prizes donated by our members. Let us all attend and share Christmas cheers with everyone as a welcome respite from our busy centennial year.

Likewise, I wish to thank Rtn. Tony Lopez for inviting many Manila Rotarians to the 17th Anniversary of BizNewsAsia which was held last November 26, 2018. It was, indeed, a great opportunity to touch base again with our fellow Manila Rotarians in fellowship.

In the Club Administration front, I wish to invite everyone to attend and participate in our RCM TOWNHALL MEETING next Thursday, December 6, 2018. This will be held during our weekly luncheon meeting. Very important matters concerning centennial projects and club concerns, which need the consent of our members, will be thoroughly discussed.

In the Centennial Projects front, our Centennial Awards Committee has already set with finality the guidelines and criteria which will be sent via courier to the ten (10) district governors of the Philippines. Deadlines have been set for the submission of the top three (3) entries for each district, the selection of the top ten (10) finalists as well as the selection of the three (3) winners. The cash prizes, centennial plates, bannerettes and plaques to be given were likewise finalized. The awarding shall take place during “A Legacy of Rotary Service”.

With respect to the TOWER Awards, fifteen (15) nominations have so far been received by PMAP and due to numerous requests, the deadline for receiving nominations has been extended to December 7, 2018.

With respect to our REAP, I would like to earnestly appeal to all of you to participate in this project as we endeavor to adopt more students from PLM and PUP who are in need of financial help. In all these projects, I exhort everyone to do their respective shares in making these centennial projects a legacy for Philippine Rotary.

Today, social media and social networks take centerstage as we welcome Facebook Philippines Country Director John Rubio. His take on the advantages of social networking will definitely inspire many of us to open our minds to the blessings of this computer application.

These colossal undertakings definitely entail our unwavering commitment towards Service Above Self. Undoubtedly, great things in Rotary are never done by a single individual, but, by a team of Rotarians, moving together towards a common goal. Under ONE CENTURY, towards ONE MISSION and in furtherance of ONE ROTARY, the best is yet to come. Let us all BE THE INSPIRATION in everything we do as we continue to adhere to the tenets of Rotary in living our everyday lives.
