Latest updates on the Centennial Week calendar, District Conference 2019, the Welcome Cocktails and the centennial projects.

Updates on Other Centennial Activities

(1) PROPOSED Centennial Week Calendar (Updated): A meeting of the Centennial Committee was held last January 3, 2019 at the Function Room of Chef Jessie, Rockwell Club, Makati City where the Centennial Week activities were discussed.

(2) District Conference 2019

DisCon Chair/ SecGen Romy Nones reported last January 3, 2019 during the Centennial Committee meeting, details that transpired during his December 27, 2018 meeting with the District 3810’s Executive Committee, with DG Rudy Bediones presiding, which was held at the Copacabana Hotel in Pasay City regarding the Rotary Club of Manila’s participation as this year’s District Conference HOST CLUB, scheduled on March 01 - 02, 2019. As the Host Club in coordination with District 3810, RCM is requested of the following:

1. Fund raising: Php 300,000 worth of advertisements

2. RCM Attendance: 100 members/ spouses

3. (2) Lechong Baka (for the March 01 Cocktails)

4. Wine (for the March 01 Cocktails)

5. RCM World Famous Chorale to sing the Philippine National Anthem

6. Welcome Remarks by President Susing Pineda

7. Emcee on the 2nd Day (March 02) for Business Meetings: PP Benny Laguesma

8. 5-minute Audio-Visual Presentation of the Rotary Centennial Movement in the Philippines and in Asia

9. RIPR Kenneth M. Schuppert, Jr.’s Visit to RCM Service Projects (Hospicio de San Jose, Sari-Saring Aralan, 100 Rotary Education Assistance Program Scholars, etc)

(3) Welcome Cocktails on June 20, 2019

President Susing Pineda met with Invitation Committee Chair PP Francis Juico and Art Exhibit Chair PD Phillip Ong to plan for the Centennial Celebration Welcome Reception and Art Exhibit for June 20,2019 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. The meeting was held at the Function Room of Chef Jessie in Rockwell Club, Makati City last January 3, 2019. The following were discussed:

1. Rtn Philip Ong to be the initial sponsor of RCM’s Welcome Cocktails scheduled on June 20, 2019 where he pledged to contribute an amount of PHP 100,000 to jump start the event.

2. To be invited are all overseas Rotarians, RCM's Sister and Daughter Clubs, members of RCM and other guests and dignitaries.

3. The event will also be featuring “Angels in Rendu: An Art Exhibition by Angie Deramos (Special Child Foot Painter) and Rtn Philip Ong for the benefit of Hospicio de San Jose Special Children Cerebral Palsy Building.

4. Proposed Venue: World Trade Center

5. Program will start at 6:00 PM and end at 8:00 PM. Ingress starts at 3:00 PM and the paintings by Hospicio de San Jose will be removed before 9:00 PM.

6. There will be a 30-minute performance by kids from Hospicio de San Jose and a 30-minute Ballet Performance by the Halili Ballet Dance Group to be followed by 1 hour cocktail.

7. A separate invitation for this function with RSVP to be set by March 30, 2019.

Rotary’s Heart for Little Angels

Latest Update: Thara, one of the patient-beneficiaries of the project, went for a check up last December 15, 2018 and has been doing well so much so that she can now go back to undertaking her daily activities for she is feeling much better.

Rotary Club of Manila Centennial Chorale Competition

Latest Update: The Rotary Club of Manila led by President Susing Pineda the Department of Education led by Secretary Leonor Briones signed a Memorandum of Agreement with respect to the Rotary Club of Manila Centennial Chorale Competition last December 17, 2019 at the Department of Education Central Office in Pasig City.

During the Centennial Committee Meeting last January 3, 2019, the committee working on the project resolved to have an advisory regarding the selection of the five (5) finalists and the best song on January 29, 2019 in Dagupan City. The details culled from the DepEd last January 8, 2019 are as follows: 6:00 am - 9:00 am Street dancing 9:30 am. Opening Program 11:00 am - 1:30 pm Showdown of Baile 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm Contest Proper (National Level)

The Rotary Club of Manila will provide two (2) judges for this. The venue will be at CSI Stadia- CSI City Mall, Lucao District, Dagupan City in Pangasinan.

Rotary Club of Manila Educational Assistance Program (REAP)

Latest Update: PP Benny Laguesma, who is presently a member of the Board of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, presented to Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila President Dr. Leonora Vasquez De Jesus last December 21, 2019 the REAP Scholarship Check in the amount of Php 200,000.00 covering the months of November and December 2018 at the Office of the University President, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila in Intramuros, Manila.

President Susing Pineda conveys his earnest appeal for more benefactors for the project.

Latest Update: After the project had been approved by the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Manila last January 3, 2019, AS Rene Policarpio, SAA Dave Reynolds, SDG/VP Lance Masters, DE/BLA Amading Valdez, AT Jason Ong, Rtn. Celso Abastillas, Club Secretary Alvin Lacambacal and PP Francis Juico volunteered to be part of the committee chaired by DE/Dir. Bobby Joseph. T-shirts will be prepared for use during project activities.

Rotary Club of Manila Centennial Commemorative Stamps

Latest Update: By virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 413, signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, “declaring 01 July 2018 to 30 June 2019, as the “Year for the Celebration of the Centennial Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Manila and the Rotary Movement in the Philippines and in Asia, the Rotary Club of Manila, First in Asia, will celebrate this milestone achievement of 100 Years of Rotary Service to the Community, a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, during its Centennial Rotary Year 2018-2019, its centennial birth anniversary being this June 1, 2019.

One of the Centennial Projects of the Rotary Club of Manila is the issuance of a limited edition Centennial Commemorative Stamp in collaboration with the Philippine Postal Corporation. This is a once-in-a-lifetime memorabilia which is guaranteed to last generations such that it becomes collector’s item.
