President's Corner

The president updates members on the centennial projects, the DISCON 2019 advertisement commitment, the commemorative stamps and the club's scholarship program.

President's Corner

Dear Fellow Manila Rotarians,

A Prosperous Chinese New Year to all!

Last week, our membership was apprised of our arduous preparations for the culminating activities of our centennial celebration. Each of the project chairs were given ample time to speak on the updates regarding their respective centennial projects.

The Centennial Celebration preparations are now in full swing as we enter the final quarter. We are exploring ways and means to entice more Rotarians from all over the archipelago through a proposed centennial motorcade concept from the Automobile Association of the Philippines. Likewise, our Centennial Souvenir Program Committee has convened to discuss the page allocations for content and much needed advertisements.

Our project, "A Legacy of Rotary Service", is presently in its campaign stages for more Rotarians from all over the Philippines to attend. Different means which include phone brigades are in process.

The Centennial Awards on the Rotary Success Stories is now on its entry gathering stage as the deadline was extended to February 16, 2019 to accommodate various requests for more time to submit worthy entries by the different districts.

The Centennial Tourism Awards under DE/Dir. Bobby Joseph has began meeting on the rules and guidelines last February 5, 2019.

The Centennial Gala Night under VPE/PAT Hermie Esguerra has everything all mapped out from the program flow to the surprise numbers and performers. A food tasting, contract signing and ocular has been done last January 31, 2019 where the officials of OKADA MANILA and the Steering Committee were on hand.

The Rotary Club of Manila Centennial Chorale Competition has just concluded its National Eliminations where the Best Song and the five Grand Finalists were chosen.

The Centennial Commemorative Stamps are now on sale as we need to raise much needed funds from the revenue the sale of these stamps would generate.

The Rotary Club of Manila Educational Assistance Program continues to find more benefactors to augment the financial concerns of our PLM and PUP scholars.

Lastly, we have fulfilled our Php 300,000 advertisement commitment to the DISCON 2019 Souvenir Program as I encourage each one of you to register for the DISCON 2019 since we are targetting atleast 100 attendees from our club, being the host club. Let us support the plea of our incumbent District Governor Rudy Bediones for a big number of Manila Rotarian attendees as this will akso serve as an opportunity to invite Rotarians from our district to take part in our centennial festivities.

Today, we welcome Mr. William Lawton, VII, Chief Executive Officer of Seagate Global Group of Investment Companies, who will talk on "The Financial System as a Tool for Supporting Sustainable Economic Growth".

Without doubt, all these are colossal undertakings which need our undivided commitment in furtherance of Service Above Self. Indeed, great things in Rotary are never done by a single individual, but, by a team of Rotarians, moving together towards a common goal.

Under ONE CENTURY, towards ONE MISSION and in furtherance of ONE ROTARY, the best is yet to come. Let us all BE THE INSPIRATION as we embrace Rotary in living our everyday lives.
