President’s Corner
The column reviews centennial preparations, the Hospicio de San Jose-Norzagaray inauguration on April 5, 2019, and the REAP scholars meeting.

Dear Fellow Manila Rotarians,
Our evening meeting last week enlightened us as well as our guests on the blessings of social banking as a means of helping budding entrepreneurs in growing their respective businesses through the Grameen way of Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Prize Winner.

Our centennial is just around the corner. As such, our frequent meetings have yielded positive results as our registration numbers have been gradually increasing. Through the close coordination of DGE Liza Elorde and PP Francis Juico, we have secured the cooperation of the District Governors-Elect who will in turn convince their Presidents-Elect to attend our centennial culminating activities.
The screening process of the Centennial Awards will be over by April 4, 2019. After which, the judges take over to decide the winners.

The Centennial Gala Night has already released the exclusive invitation for dissemination to the proper parties concerned.
Our Hospicio de San Jose-Norzagaray Project, the subject of an approved global grant in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Osaka East, District 3810 and The Rotary Foundation, will be inaugurated on April 5, 2019.

DG Rudy and Lady Sharon Bediones, PDG Vince and Lady Tina Carlos, PDG Alex and Lady Anna Cureg, PDG Obet Pagdanganan, VPE/PAT Hermie Esguerra, PSAA Fred Lim and ISDG/IS/DE/Dir. Albert Alday attended the 19th Elorde Awards: Banquet of Champions last March 25, 2019 at the Grand Ballroom of the OKADA MANILA in Parañaque City. Given a posthumous award that night was the late PVP Roy Golez who himself was a boxer during his US Naval Academy days. The award was received by his son, Parañaque Vice Mayor Rico Golez.
With respect to REAP, Chairman Sec.Gen. Romy Nones and I wish to invite our REAP sponsors ti the Polytechnic University of the Philippines on March 29, 2019 (Friday) from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Board Room, 2nd Floor, NALLRC Building, of PUP in Sta. Mesa, Manila for thr Meet the Scholars. I likewise earnest appeal for more benefactors for the project for us to fulfill more dreams of our financially challenged, but, academically deserving students from PLM and PUP.

Our centennial commemorative stamps are still on sale. Please don’t miss your chance to secure this issue as I am certain that this will be a memorabilia worth keeping.
Today, we shall have National Artist for Literature F. Sionil Jose who will share his outstanding pieces of literature with us. Without doubt, all these are colossal undertakings which need our earnest efforts in furtherance of Service Above Self. Indeed, great things in Rotary are never done by a single individual, but, by a team of Rotarians, moving together towards a common goal. Under ONE CENTURY, towards ONE MISSION and in furtherance of ONE ROTARY, the best is yet to come. Let us all BE THE INSPIRATION as we embrace Rotary in our everyday lives.
