Seeds of Change
Rtn. Celso Abastillas reckons that the Rotary Club of Manila’s 100th anniversary spans four generations of Manila Rotarians.
The RCM’s 100th Anniversary: Centennial celebration of any organization does not happen very often. One hundred years of an organization’s existence is equivalent to 4 generations. To summarize, assuming a generation consists of 25 years and RCM is run by 50-year old leaders: 1919-1st Generation (Leon Lambert-founder)- 50 yo; 2nd Generation (Child) is 25 yo; RCM is 1 yo; 1944- 1st generation is 75 yo; 2nd Generation (Child) is 50 yo, 3rd Generation (Grandchild) is 25 yo, RCM is 25 yo; 1969-2nd Generation (Child) is 75 yo; 3rd Generation (Grandchild) is 50 yo, 4th Generation (Great grandchild) is 25, RCM is 50 yo; 1994-4th Generation (Grand child) is 75 yo, 4th Generation (Great grandchild) is 50 yo, 5th Generation (Great great grandchild) is 25 yo, RCM is 75 yo; Finally in 2019- 4th Generation (Great Grand child) is 75, 5th Generation (Great great Grandchild) is 50 yo, RCM is 100 years old. (Or to simplify the 4 generations of Manila Rotarians: 1919-1944, 1944-1969, 1969-1994, 1994-2019).
Based on the above analysis, we should belong to either 4th Generation (great grand child) or 5th Generation (great great grandchild) of the Manila Rotarians from the time of Leon Lambert. There are really, really very few organizations that ever reach 100 years. So this is how unique and important the RCM centennial celebration on June 21, 2019 is. Hence, it’s worth the all out support of each and every member of the club. Indeed, it makes us proud to be members of RCM.
