An Update on T.R.E.E.S.

Meeting of T.R.E.E.S. Committee held last Sept 20,2019 at the Manila Elks Club, Makati City. Present were: (counter clockwise) PD Oscar del Rosario, Sr., National Chair Dir Raffy Alunan, Rotary Club of Pasay Maharlika PP Jun Battung, DE Johnny Chotrani, DE/AS Rene Policarpio, Ms. Pattie Kirkpatrick, Rtn. Juan Montel, ES Anna Kun Toledo and Mr. Marius Angara (consultant). The meeting focused on the framework for the master plan and on the data provided by PPJun Battung and the DENR. After proper vetting and Board approval, the master plan will serve as RCM's basis for future MOA’s with project partners.

Here are the broadstrokes: Priorities for re-greening were processed and decided upon: Tier 1: Mangroves; Tier 2 - Watersheds; Tier 3 - Forests. Regions surrounding NCR will be prioritized for Mangroves and Watersheds. Areas for forest cover will be on a selective basis nationwide. It was decided that Capiz in Region 6 would be the site for the proposed Gina Lopez Memorial Forest Park. DENR will be officially informed about this. Discussions on budgeting and funding were initiated, and for developing an official logo and information channels for project participants.

T.R.E.E.S. Committee Chair Dir. Raffy Alunan, III, and Rotary Club of Pasay Maharlika PP Jun Battung held a meeting with Bureau of Forest Management Executive Director Nonito Tamayo last September 30, 2019 at the Bureau of Forest Management Office in Diliman, Quezon City to map out the plan based on the level of priorities for Mangroves, Watersheds and Forestry.
