President’s Corner
President Bobby Joseph welcomes members to the 18th Weekly Meeting, postponed by Typhoon Quinta, and outlines the year’s programs and his team.
Good afternoon Fellow Rotarians and special friends. May the Almighty God gift us with peace, harmony, healing, blessings and better friendships. Mama Mary pray for us and continue giving us hope, charity and love.
Welcome to the 18th Weekly Meeting which was supposed to be last 26th of October 2020 for our Joint Formal Handover/Awarding Meeting at the Ballroom of The Heritage Hotel Manila, but, which was postponed to today, 29th of October 2020, due to the onslaught of Typhoon Quinta in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces. We celebrate in thanksgiving the first face-to-face event with suggested health protocols and God’s goodness in saving us from the wrath of the typhoon. We are also in the Zoom platform for those who are not able to make it.
Last year, we had eleven (11) Star Rotarians and this year, our target is a minimum of twenty (20). We will go beyond eleven (11) by next month. The Star Rotarians programs have started with them being active in their Classification Talks, featuring them in our Balita, being active in our projects and will be attending a once a month face-to-face fellowship meeting at Ralph’s Wines and Spirits along Pasay Road behind the New World Makati Hotel in Makati City.
We are aggressive in searching for young professionals who have shown leadership skills to join the Rotary Club of Manila. There will be more engagements with Rotaractors by helping them in projects, joining our Zoom Meetings and being ready to share with them our abled speakers.
Recognition among our members is a must. We acknowledge those who have contributed to the success of our club on a quarterly basis through our Presidential Haribon Leadership Awards, thanking them through our Balita and with the Board of Directors, sending them our gratefulness for their contribution.
We are on our Second (2nd) Centennial with programs on the Environment and Ambassadorship that will strengthen ties with other Rotary clubs in the country and abroad. There will be new business opportunities and promoting friendships in the entire country through joint projects.
Our team this year is packed with great Rotarians who are 101 percenters. We have the leadership and connections of IPP Jackie Rodriguez, Chair of the RCManila Foundation Inc. and Programs Committee Chairman, the benevolent IPVP Hermie Esguerra, who likewise serves as Director Ex-Officio in his capacity as Foundation Chairman. Two other past Presidents, PP Jesus "Susing" Pineda and PP Teodoro "Teddy" Ocampo, serve as Board Advisers. Chairing our Education and Tower Awards is PP Jesus ‘’Susing” Pineda, who likewise serves as Director Ex-Officio in his capacity as RCManila Foundation Inc. President with PDG Alex Cureg taking charge of the Rotary Information Committee. IPD Dean Atty Amado Valdez serves as Board Legal Adviser. Our present Board of Directors, who are leaders in their own rights, are excellent and compassionate gentlemen of Service Above Self. Aside from me as President, the other members of the Board of Directors include IPP Jackie Rodriguez, VP Thad Liamzon, Dir. Albert Alday, Dir. Johnny Chotrani, Dir. Celso Abastillas, AT/Dir. Jujut Enriquez, Dir. Hans Palacios and Dir. Farid Alain Schoucair. Executive Officers include Club Secretary Reginald "Reggie" Yu, Treasurer Karlo Castro, SAA Dave Reynolds, AS Henry Go, AT Marcus Dee and DSAA Jason Bogovich. This is our Transformational Wow Team. I thank the Lord for giving me this magnanimous team during my term.
Maraming salamat. Cheers!
