President's Corner

President Bobby Joseph reports on the last meeting's guest speakers, the January 30 gathering and Haribon Leadership Awards, donations, and his coaching and speaking engagements.

Dear Colleagues in RCM,

During our last Rotary Club meeting, we had three guest speakers led by Ambassador U Lwin Oo, Ambassador of Myanmar to the Philippines, PDSAA Ike Stranathan, Founder and President of Staff Virtual, and Star Rotarian Shigeru Shimoda, President of Marubeni Philippines Corporation. We were delighted with the wealth of knowledge shared to our members. Kudos to RCM, we have opened up doors for all members to get to know their Business Classifications to afford our members to network. In the very near future, we may consider having a B to B Matching appointment meeting. Please let us know if this is favorably appreciated.

We thank IPP Jackie Rodriguez, PD Nick Locsin and PDG Vince Carlos, who are happily promoting the Ambassador’s Networking Projects and at the same time, coordinating with all clubs who have achieved over 100 years to join our organization of the Circle of Centennial Rotary Clubs, namely Rotary Club of Shanghai, Rotary Club of Seattle, Rotary Club of Calcutta, Rotary Club of Dublin, Rotary Club of Madrid Internationale, Rotary Club of Minneapolis, Rotary Club of Tokyo and Rotary Club of London. We shall be having Zoom meetings with them to coordinate the different officials of the different clubs.

On January 30, 2021, we are inviting members of the Board of Directors, Past District Governors, Officers, Volunteers, friends, and advisers for a social gathering at 5:00 pm, The Heritage Hotel Manila in Pasay City. We have arranged a face to face meeting with safety protocols. We will be coming up with ideas to raise funds to support our outreach projects. We are also taking this opportunity to recognize Rotarians who have contributed to the progress of the club. We shall be bestowing, for the second time during my term, the President's Haribon Leadership Award. The recipients are the following, namely, Assistant Treasurer Marcus Dee, DE John Cutter, Treasurer Karlo Castro, Dir. Farid Shoucair, IPP Jackie Rodriguez, DE/VP Thad Liamzon, PVP Fausto Preysler, Jr., PDG Obet Pagdanganan, DG Odie Tarriela, PD Nick Locsin, PP Susing Pineda, ES Anna Toledo and PP Teddy Ocampo.

We would like to thank the Rotary Club of Osaka for donating US $ 3,000 for Hospicio de San Jose. Let’s add to the donation of the Rotary Club of Osaka to help out Hospicio de San Jose. For your donations, please contact ES Anna Toledo. We would also like to also thank DG Odie Tarriela for personally donating Php 100,000 which has been turned over to DE John Cutter to purchase the needs for the PGH cancer-stricken patients. We are still lagging behind our contributions to the needy and we are requesting you and your business partners to lend a helping hand. Many are suffering and are in dire need especially during this pandemic time.

Last January 23, 2021, I was invited to coach 20 Transformational Presidents of Team A of District 3810 on public speaking. I am glad they appreciated the training because it built confidence and improved their communication skills. It was requested that we conduct several more sessions.

Last January 24, 2021, I was invited to be the Guest of Honor and Speaker on the subject of Leadership in RCM for the Rotaract Club of DLSU Manila during their 22nd Induction and 21st Handover Ceremony, entitled, “Lumiere”. This is the youth arm of Rotary International. Thank you Aila Jenya Arellano, President of the Rotaract Club of DLSU Manila and Chloe Say, EVP External of the Rotaract Club of DLSU Manila.

Colleagues in Rotary, you may invite some potential members to join our club as we need younger members to join us. We appeal to Senior Rotarians to mentor Star Rotarians and donate and contribute to The Rotary Foundation. We are also seeking the assistance of the Rotary Club of Bangkok which has a crowdsourcing fundraising program. We are seeking their approval to share with us their software.

May your hearts be full of gladness and compassion as we were meant to save lives. May the Lord God keep you safe and blessed during these challenging times. Wishing you all the best. Have a great day! SKAL! Mabuhay ang Rotary!

Your Servant President, Robert “Bobby” Lim Joseph, Jr. President RY 2020-2021 (101st President)
