Rotary Club of Manila and JCI Makati Undertake Mushroom to Classroom Project

JCI Makati headed by its President JCI Mem./STAR Rtn. Lawrence “Lance” Tan together with Rotary Club of Manila headed by its President Bobby Joseph forged a partnership in converting empty classrooms in Pasay City to be the habitat of mushrooms while it is not yet being used. The two organizations brought in 4,000 mushroom bags to Padre Zamora Elementary School in Pasay City last February 18, 2021. The event was attended by the 201 Barangay Chairmen and Councilors of Pasay City.

Mushroom to Classroom is a project that the City of Pasay supports through the office of Rtn. Mayor Emi Calixto Rubiano, Councilor Joey Calixto Isidro, and Councilor Mark Calixto. The whole day event included a seminar on how to grow the mushrooms, how to harvest, creation of different finished products and how to make the business of mushroom growing and production sustainable. Pasay City also launched it’s own mushroom store for distribution of harvested raw mushrooms headed by the office of Councilor Joey Isidro.

Mushroom to Classroom Project is expected to be a sustainable long-running program of the targeted beneficiaries of 201 Barangays in Pasay City.
