PDG Lyne A. Abanilla, Chief Operating Officer of Physicians for Peace Philippines, served as District 3810 Governor in RY 2006-2007 after more than 43 years with the Manila Bulletin.

MANILA BULLETIN YEARS
LYNE ALANO ABANILLA has over 43 years of service with the Manila Bulletin, one of the leading national newspapers in the Philippines. She rose from the ranks from clerical work to branch management, moved to department head, on to Assistant Vice President and Vice President for Advertising from 2005 to 2015 until retirement. As Lyne put her heart and hands on her work, Classified Ads became the heart and soul of Manila Bulletin that brought revenues beyond expectations. After four decades of working with Manila Bulletin, Lyne soon branched out to greater public service and championed the service to people in need via Rotary International programs as well as Physicians for Peace Programs, aimed at helping the underserved and people in need.
ROTARY INVOLVEMENT
Rotarian Lyne, an active and committed Club Member since 1994 became the President of the Rotary Club of Intramuros for the RY 1999-2000. She was the Chairperson of all Rotary Club Presidents of District 3810. She was awarded Most Outstanding President of the Year, Club Rotarian of the Year in RY 1995-1996, RY 1996-1997 and RY 1997-1998. She was elected District Governor of Rotary District 3810 in 2006 covering a hundred Rotary Clubs Also in the same year, she was chosen to be the Group Study Exchange (GSE) Leader to Brazil on an educational, economic and cultural exchange. During her year as Governor, with her exceptional interpersonal skills and high energy level, she developed team spirit for Rotary International District 3810 and worked on the Rotary year’s theme LEAD THE WAY with enthusiasm and persuasiveness together with the Leader Presidents and the Leader Team.
After serving the district as Governor in 2006-2007, she was immediately appointed as Rotary International Public Image Zone Coordinator for South Pacific covering several countries and served during Rotary Years 2007-2012 serving four Rotary International Presidents. PDG Lyne is a Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation. Represented District 3810 in the Rotary International Council on Legislation in Chicago, USA in 2013. Recently appointed as RI Assistant Zone Coordinator (ARC) for Membership Development to serve for Rotary Years 2021-2023.
PHYSICIANS FOR PEACE ENGAGEMENT 2005 to current
Action oriented, she has always been socially committed to causes that improve the health and wellbeing of the less fortunate, working with such private groups as Rotary International (RI) and Physicians for Peace (PFP), both international organizations, Shelter Box Philippines and Tigaon Foundation Inc. Lyne is a recipient of various awards and recognitions. In 2004, she was invited to be the In-Country Representative of PHYSICIANS FOR PEACE USA and the Executive Director of Physicians for Peace Philippines, a chapter of Physicians for Peace USA with head office in Norfolk, Virginia, USA. Lyne, as Executive Director later became its Chief Operating Officer upon her retirement at Manila Bulletin. She organizes and oversees Multi Specialty Surgery missions of International and Local Doctors to various parts of the Philippines and oversees the interests of PFP-US in the country.
Her being with Physicians for Peace (PFP) enabled her to link PFP and Rotary International Districts in the Philippines, and have become partners in service on various projects, notably the Prosthetics and Orthotics Center complete with AMPUTEE WARD and WALK UNIT at the Philippine General Hospital and is now serving amputees all over the Philippines; the Vision Care Program of PFP called Seeing Clearly Program, Save the Sight of a Child and very recently, Vision Screening at School Entry serving many Public Elementary schools in many parts of the country. Currently managing a Physicians for Peace partnership with UNICEF, to develop a package on Children’s disabilities: Hearing Impairments, Vision Impairments, Neuro developmental and mobility. Currently, managing grants from USAID and UNICEF for Persons with Disabilities; While working as COO, sits as program director on Vision Care.

PERSONAL
Lyne hails from Tigaon Camarines Sur in Bicol. She is the daughter of Andres Alano Sr. now deceased, and Victoria Brutas Alano. Lyne has seven (7) brothers and four (4) sisters. She finished Elementary and High School from Sta. Clara Academy, a school run by the Dominican Order in Tigaon Camarines Sur and finished Medical Secretarial Science in Marian Schools now Emilio Aguinaldo College and took bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Pamantasan Ng Lungsod Ng Maynila (PLM). She has three children, Vincent who works in the US, and two daughters, Yvette who used to be in the Hotel and Travel industry and Charisse who studied abroad and now works with San Miguel Corporation. All children now married. Lyne spends her free time with her three grandchildren, Ralph, Ysabel and Paul. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in public administration, Lyne began working with the Manila Bulletin, the leading national newspaper in the Philippines. After nearly 3 decades of working for the bulletin, Lyne soon branched out to greater public service and began championing efforts via the Rotary to build programs aimed at helping the underserved and people of want. She was awarded as Ulirang Ina by Ulirang Ina Ama Awards Foundation, Inc. held at Manila Hotel.
