President’s Corner

President Chito Zaldarriaga thanks members for the Cavite flood relief response and reminds them to bring one new member and to become Paul Harris Fellows.

Great Day Dear RCM Brothers!

Following that wet and shaky weekend, we are all still on tenterhooks with this tight watch on the threat of exponentially growing Delta Variant in our country … one is tempted to preface it with dingbats (&%$@) as an adjective precedent to this new menace, but this is a decent narrative and it will remain so.

I was awed by the rapid action taken by our PP Jackie Rodriguez’s call to fire up the club to mobilizing a team that would help the flood victims from the call of three clubs in Cavite. Almost simultaneously, the RCManila Foundation, Inc. Chairman Herminio “Hermie” Esguerra (Clark Kent) chimed in and put in a hefty amount from the foundation funds as this started the deluge of participation among a lot of our members. The logistics prepared by Chairman Hermie was phenomenal and the operations were carried out very efficiently. I enjoyed the narrative of PP Jackie while acknowledging the members’ participation “… and the poor pig who sacrificed his life for our eating enjoyment.”

Because of the new restrictive policies included in the new IATF protocols, we decided to postpone the July 29, 2021 fellowship affair organized by our Ambassador of Goodwill group. Hopefully, this heightened GCQ will not last too long so we can get around to re-scheduling it soon.

I was able to virtually spend a Zoom evening with the Rotary International President and other Rotary Clubs from across the globe last July 24, 2021, 8:00 pm (Manila time). When Rotarians of other countries get together in an event such as this, it is mind boggling and makes one’s hair stand no end. The potential that this international group has to actually Change Lives through service is both an uplifting and humbling experience.

As such, I am reminded to remind one and all:

1. Everyone, Bring One - If you are reading this, please commit at least 10 minutes of your time to draw up a short list of your own personal contacts and relatives who will be a good quality addition to our ranks. I am thanking you in advance for your effort to do this.

2. Every RCM member, a Paul Harris Fellow - Contribute your $1,000.00 to the TRF! While the exchange rate still stands at P49.00 : $1.00. Let us take advantage of this please – if not, be a sustaining member by starting with a $100.00 a month “tingi” for the next 10 months. Again, I am pre-emptively thanking all who will be making this goal a reality during this RY 2021-2022.

Stay safe everyone. Let us draw our ultimate protection from our dear Almighty Creator as we give Him back all the glory! Salamat po!

Humbly yours in Rotary,
