President’s Corner

Greetings to one and all! I should say, “thank you”, to one and all! As the Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day this Thursday, I would like to extend this heartfelt greeting to all of our American friends and members of the Rotary Club of Manila and to each and every member of our beloved club - HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!

Thank you all for the camaraderie we share. Thank you all for the concern we have for one another. Thank you all for the cooperation when a call for urgent participation is made. Thank you all for being and staying as a member of the Rotary Club of Manila!

This American National Holiday started in the year 1621 when the Plymouth Colonists and the Wampanoag shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the Colonies. A bit of trivia, indeed, and, apparently, lobster, seal and swan were on the pilgrims’ menu that day – and not turkey! It wasn’t until 1863 that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a National Thanksgiving Day to be held each November. This is one holiday that should be celebrated globally and by everyone every year. No matter what our situation is, there is, really, so much to still be thankful for.

Today, we have PDG Karen Lee Tamayo, Rotary International District 3810 District Trainer for RY 2022-2023, Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) Faculty and Curriculum Development Head. She will be sharing with all of us very important information about The Rotary Foundation and our roles as members.

Have a great day and weekend ahead dear RCM brothers!

Humbly yours in Rotary, FSZ
