President's Corner
President Chito Zaldarriaga asks members to re-evaluate the presidential candidates against set criteria and the Four-Way Test ahead of the May 9 elections.

Dear Fellow RCM Brothers,
Happy Easter to everyone! As we observe the Easter Octave week, I presume we have all had time to introspect during last week’s respite from our daily grind. One of the things that I reflected on was the importance of this coming elections. With all the dynamics and nuances of our National Elections (i.e., Machinery, Trolls, SocMed, etc.), it is so very vital to validate and to re-assess who, we, as Rotarians, are planning to vote for. Presumably, we already have our own personal choices on who these are and consequently, influenced our respective spheres to take the same choice. Although May 9 is rapidly approaching, there still is time.
My dear brothers in Rotary, may I respectfully ask us all to please re-evaluate who the best President will be against the following criteria:
1. Capability
2. Solid experience in Public Service
3. Sound track record in Higher Office
4. Integrity and Honesty
5. Love of God, Love of Country
While all the candidates will claim all of the above, their records will reveal bare cold facts about them all. To simplify, let us put them all to our basic Four-Way Test:
1. Does this candidate speak the TRUTH?
2. Is this candidate being FAIR to all concerned – will he/she be FAIR once elected?
3. Is this candidate going to foster GOODWILL AND BETTER FRIENDSHIPS, not just among local constituents, but to our foreign neighbors as well?
4. Will this candidate’s winning be BENEFICIAL TO ALL CONCERNED or just a selected few?
I have always been an apolitical person, but this year, I firmly believe that we should be the Rotarians that we are and re-evaluate, decide, campaign and rally behind our choice. I am confident that in the end, we can and will make the right choice because of the fiber that each and every RCM member has within him.
Gentlemen, this is not political. This is apolitical. But, most importantly, this is critical for our NATIONAL WELFARE. We need to have the right President and leader in Malacañang for the next six years. May God Almighty be the ultimate guide as we do this. May HIS Choice ultimately prevail!
Mabuhay ang RCM, Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! God bless us all!
