Project Cracker Engine Driven Silica/Calcite Extractor

Christian P. Caubang built an engine-driven cleaner from old drilling equipment parts to clear silica and calcite from reinjection pipes.

Project Cracker Engine Driven Silica/Calcite Extractor

Condition BEFORE Innovation

Alvenuis pipes used in cold reinjection system is easily clogged up by silica and calcite which is inherent to the cold reinjection system; therefore, we need to replace the pipe in timely manner to avoid reinjection capacity loss in the system. The main problem encountered in manual De-clogging/cleaning, the pipe is subjected to too much hammering, rolling and stress. Repeated stress will result to pipe fatigue and pipe leaks and lessen the pipe physical life. The cost of water jetting or hydro jetting on alvenuis pipe is too costly with an average cost of PHP 2,400.00 per pipe. The cost of manual DE clogging/descaling using

Change/Intervention Done

Using mechanical machine to speed up the time needed to clean the pipe and to lessen the stress in the pipe. Improve the quality and speed of cleaning from manual /hand cleaning to Mechanical Cleaning. Very hard deposition can’t be cleaned by hand and the narrow spaces can't be penetrated by auger hand tool.

Designing/Building an Engine Driven Silica Cleaner/Extractor is very crucial to FCRS to lessen time in cleaning pipe with improve cleaning power without being too costly compared to hydro jetting/water jetting. The materials we used is from old drilling water pump engine, junk drilling pipes, old gearboxes and old/corroded steel plates but usable. Combined with previous experiences and ingenuity we have developed an idea how to build a Cleaning Machine that will be useful in the long run.

Condition AFTER Innovation

The pipes are cleaned thoroughly and very usable compared to manual cleaning; pipe is not subjected to dents, cracks, and stress. Pipes are replaced in timely manner and avoid generation loss due silica/calcite clogging. It is much safer to use Engine Driven Silica / Calcite Cleaner than Electric Driven for controlling the variable speed and load of the cleaner. It can be manipulated easily than controlling electric motor / circuits which my lead to overload/overcurrent/over speed and short circuits.
