Isinumbong Ko Kay Tulfo

Straight from the Horse's Mouth profiles Ramon “Mon” Tulfo, journalist, TV host, radio broadcaster and columnist, born November 22, 1946.

Isinumbong Ko Kay Tulfo
“My detention for one day due to a Manila court order – two courts, actually – led to these discoveries: I realized who my real friends are; some colleagues in the profession, instead of helping you when you are in dire straits, will try to bring you down; the majesty of the law is abused by some individuals who are supposed to uphold it.” — Ramon Tulfo

Ramon “Mon” Tulfo is a colorful and celebrated journalist, TV host, radio broadcaster and columnist for The Philippine Star. Born November 22, 1946, he is the eldest of ten siblings of the late Colonel Ramon Silvestre Tulfo Sr. (Ret.) who was a member of Philippine Constabulary and Caridad Teshiba-Tulfo, a housewife. Mon has been in the news and media industry since 1969 and is widely-recognized for hosting "Isumbong Mo Kay Tulfo!" which has been on the air, in radio or television, since its inception in 1991. The show is one of the forerunners, if not the forerunner of hard-hitting, aggressive public service and investigative shows. He also occasionally hosts TV5's T3: “Kapatid Sagot Kita,” along with his brothers Ben, Raffy (now Senator) and Erwin (now DSWD Secretary).

A multi-awarded community leader, Ramon Tulfo won Best in Investigative Reporting during the 1984 Catholic Mass Media Awards. 1998 proved to be another wonderful year when Ramon Tulfo and the "Isumbong" show were named Best Public Service Program Host and Best Public Service Program, respectively, during the 12th Star Awards. In 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte appointed him as the special envoy for public diplomacy to China. He was to hold the post for six months, and had a salary of ₱ 1 per year. His term was extended for another six months on May 27, 2019.

Ramon Tulfo's reporting style and no-holds-barred manner has become a cultural touchstone, and "Isumbong Mo Kay Tulfo" has become a catchphrase in Philippine society. He has become so popular that the term “i-Tulfo mo ‘yan,” has become a byword for the Filipino folk who wish to find quick responses for their grievances. He currently has a column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, "On Target." He is also the head for both the Ramon Tulfo, Good Samaritan Foundation, Inc., and the Ramon Tulfo Cup, an invitational shootfest.
