The Club’s 44th weekly membership meeting featured club awards, presidential awards, loyalty and best attendance awards and a closing message of thanks from Pres. Hermie Esguerra.

44th Weekly Membership Meeting: A Recap

Before the meeting proper, Manila Rotarians found the time to happily engage in banter and fellowship, delighting the opportunity to once again break bread with brothers in service.

Dir. Albert Alday led the membership and guests in saying the opening prayer.

At the appointed time, Program Moderator VP Reggie Yu requested the members and guests to take their seats and invited Pres. Hermie Esguerra to the podium to call the meeting to order.

The members and guests sang the Philippine National Anthem, aided by the beautifully put together RCM audio visual presentation.

Grant Chairman Aries Balanay led the recitation of the meaningful Rotary Pledge and the 4-Way Test.

The RCM World Famous “WF” Chorale together with Pres. Hermie Esguerra led the singing of the Philippine Rotary and RCM hymns, and in serenading birthday celebrants of the week: PP Joanne Biddle of RID 7670 USA and Asst. Treas. PJ Garcia.

Presidential Awards Recipients

Dir. Albert S. Alday, for his unwavering commitment to Rotary’s core values of Service Above Self, which has inspired others to follow in his footsteps. Through his self-effacing actions, he has exemplified the spirit of Rotary, fostering an environment of fellowship, unity and a shared sense of purpose. His willingness to share his time and talent in educating prospective new members about Rotary’s objectives, mission, and modalities has been invaluable. His selflessness and dedication have not only encouraged prospective new members to join our organization but have also strengthened our club’s ability to make a lasting impact on our community. Through his efforts, we have expanded our reach and enhanced our capacity to address the needs of those we serve.

Past District Gov. Rudy Bediones, with profound appreciation for his unwavering commitment to bringing forth musical joy and elevating the ambiance of every Rotary Club of Manila event. As Co-Chairman of the Music Committee, he has successfully kindled the interest of RCM members to join the esteemed Team World Famous Chorale. Through his dedicated efforts, he has diligently organized regular rehearsals and fostered a strong sense of fellowship among its member, further enhancing the reputation of the RCM as the esteemed home of the World Famous Music Chorale. The Club extends its heartfelt gratitude to him for his exceptional dedication, which has enriched our Club’s cultural landscape and brought delightful harmony in our gatherings.

SAA Jason Bogovich. As Sergeant at Arms, for his dedicated service to the Club by ensuring that members are guided and are abiding by proper decorum at Club meetings and that our members are executing discretion and proper use of the Club’s various social media platforms, ensuring the members enjoy a social media platform that is both vibrant, cordial, and respectful of various views and opinions.

STAR Rtn. Edgard Cabangon and Ms. Sharon Tan for generously hosting the club’s membership meeting at the City Tower Hotel last Thursday May 4, 2023.

STAR Rtn. Arvin Arik Carranceja, for his active participation in several service activities of RCM and of RID 3810, and for his generous donation of a substantial quantity of iPad through the Department of Education, not only provided critical learning tools for students but showed club’s commitment to Rotary’s Area of Focus on Basic Education and Learning.

Treas. Karlo Castro, for his dedicated service to the Club, unselfishly shared his immensely valuable time, talent, and skills in ensuring that Club funds are properly accounted for and are maximized to their full value; and for ensuing that the Board is guided in the effective and efficient management of club funds and engaging members to contribute to The Rotary Foundation.

PDG Alex Cureg, for his exceptional leadership as the head of The Rotary Foundation Committee. Through his sterling guidance, he has demonstrated an exemplary understanding and shared his superb knowledge of the Foundation’s worthy mission and objectives with RCMME members. His tireless efforts have instilled in our members a deep sense of responsibility as Rotarians, inspiring them to actively support the mission of the Rotary organization. The club extends its deepest gratitude to him for his unwavering dedication, which has strengthened the foundation of our Club and amplified our collective impact in serving communities locally and globally.

PD Oscar A. Del Rosario, Jr., with profound appreciation for his unwavering commitment to bringing musical joy and elevating the atmosphere of every Rotary Club of Manila event. As Chairman of the Music Committee, he has nurtured a deep passion for music within RCM members, inspiring them to join the renowned Team World Famous Chorale. Through his diligent efforts, he has organized regular rehearsals and fostered a sense of fellowship among its members, resulting in the distinguished recognition of the RCM as the home of The World Famous Music Chorale.

Rtn. Brendan W.L. Egan, was awarded for his active and consistent leadership of the Classification Committee, diligently reviewing membership proposals and their relevant classification. He had ensured that each new member was provided proper classification resulting in a diverse membership rich with a wealth of experience in various fields.

PD Issam El-debs, in kind recognition of his tireless efforts of engaging members to join and actively participate in the weekly membership meeting; PD Issam has not wavered in his task and as a result has created opportunities for RCM members to foster a long-lasting friendship and bond.

Dir. Eduardo V. Enriquez III, for his dedicated service to the Club for actively organizing and overseeing the Membership Committee which has been both, the driving force to increase the membership, while at the same time, ensuring that the age-old tradition of keeping the membership of the club at a high level and the envy of other clubs.

Asst. Treas. Paul Joseph M. Garcia, for his dedicated service to the Club as Assistant Treasurer, for unselfishly shared his immensely valuable time, talent and skills in ensuring that Club funds are properly accounted for and are maximized to their full value. He has likewise ensured that the Board is guided in the effective and efficient management of Club funds.

PP Domingo S. Guevara Jr., in sincere recognition of his extraordinary dedication and profound commitment in organizing the monthly Rotary Club of Manila’s 1st Friday Novena Mass to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. His unwavering devotion has fostered a deep sense of spiritual fellowship among members of all faiths, providing a unique platform for our Club to come together in prayer and brotherhood. Through his exceptional efforts, he has created a sacred space where we can seek solace, strength and unity, transcending religious boundaries. The Club extends its heartfelt gratitude to him for his remarkable contributions, which have enriched the spiritual fabric of our Club and nurtured our shared sense of community.

PD Arsenio Z. Locsin, for his tireless and sustained efforts in ensuring that the RCM remains a well-recognized and respected member of the Rotary International community by enriching relations with sister clubs and expanding new international relations through the Circle of Centennial Rotary Clubs, thus expanding Rotary Service thru fellowship.

Rtn. Antonilo DC Mauricio, by providing youths with marginal means, scholarship opportunities for tertiary education, and/or livelihood skills, thus helping these youths and their families create their own economic development.

Rtn. Ramon Alberto B. Nolido, for his exemplary dedication, leadership, and compassion in initiating and coordinating the design and remaking of the Special Children Quarters at Hospicio de San Jose. His selfless commitment to improving the lives of the children in need has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all those who have witnessed his remarkable efforts. His unwavering dedication to the wellbeing of the special children, coupled with his deep understanding of their unique requirements, has ensures that every aspect of the remodeling project has been carefully considered and tailored to meet their specific needs. The thoughtfully designed quarters now provide a safe and welcoming sanctuary where the children can flourish, learn and thrive in an atmosphere of love, understanding and acceptance.

PD Phillip Ong, in deep appreciation for his extraordinary contributions as Chairman of the Committee on Individuals with Special Needs, particularly at the Hospicio de San Jose, is celebrated for his unwavering compassion, dedication, and visionary leadership. His profound impact has brought about remarkable transformations in the lives of countless individuals with special needs, empowering them to thrive and reach their full potential. Through his selfless efforts, he has created a more inclusive and supportive environment, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment. The Club extends it heartfelt gratitude to him for his outstanding commitment, which has touched the lives of many and left an enduring legacy of compassion and advocacy.

Centennial Pres. Jesus “Susing” Pineda, in recognition of his exceptional dedication and invaluable contribution as a member of the Rotary Club of Manila’s Membership Committee. Hi unwavering commitment to upholding the quality of membership, as envisioned by our esteemed charter members, has played a pivotal role in strengthening and sustaining the very essence of the Rotary movement. His discerning judgment, integrity, and unwavering commitment to excellence have set a benchmark for others to follow. Rtn. Carlos G. Serapio. As chairman of the Ethics Committee, he demonstrated exceptional diligence in gathering relevant facts and offering invaluable guidance to the Board of Directors when addressing internal issues among our members. Through his steadfast commitment, he has upheld the integrity and reputation of our Club, fostering an environment of trust, fairness and accountability. The Club extends its deepest gratitude to him, for his remarkable contributions, which have been instrumental in preserving the ethical fabric of our organization.

Rtn. Ferdinand Talusan, for his invaluable information technology expertise, is honored for his outstanding contributions in elevating the digital profile of the Rotary Club of Manila. His technical support to the Club’s electronic elections and digitalization of archives has ensured the preservation, accessibility, and online availability for members to privately read and appreciate. Moreover, his active support of Club projects and activities has made a significant impact. The Club extends its deepest gratitude for his dedication and commitment, which has strengthened the Club’s digital presence and fostered a sense of unity among members.

SAA Nagi Zeitouni, for ensuring that members are guided and are abiding by proper decorum at Club meetings and that members are exercising discretion and proper use of the Club’s various social media platforms. SAA Nagi’s efforts are instrumental in ensuring that members enjoy a social media platform, that is both vibrant, cordial, and respectful of various views and opinions.

VP Reginald T. Yu, in sincere recognition of his invaluable and dedicated service to the Club for leading and managing key Club events that have raised the profile of RCM to an even higher level. VP Reggie was a moving force in the widely successful Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) A and in paving the way for the creation of EARLYACT and INTERACT, all of which have created a lasting impact on the youth.

Rtn. Alvin R. Ampil, Chairman, RCM Punlaan Scholarship Program. In recognition of his invaluable service to the RCM by providing youths with marginal means, scholarship opportunities for tertiary education, and / or livelihood skills, thus helping these youths and their families create their own economic development.

Rtn. Bertel Ingmar Bertelsen. In grateful recognition of his dedicated service to the RCM by providing shelter kits to families affected by natural calamities. Rtn. Ingmar has likewise proven that geographical distance is no obstacle in being part of Rotary spirit and camaraderie through his active participation in various online activities.

Rtn. Manuel “Manny” M. Blanco, Member, Rotary Information Committee. In recognition of his selfless dedication and invaluable contributions in sharing his time and talent to provide basic information on the objectives and mission that have made Rotary an organization dedicated to realizing service objectives through fellowship. His efforts have been instrumental in welcoming prospective new members into the Rotary family. His unwavering commitment to Rotary's core values of service above self has inspired others to follow in his footsteps. Through his selfless actions, he has exemplified the spirit of Rotary, fostering an environment of fellowship, unity, and a shared sense of purpose. By providing them with the necessary knowledge, he has empowered them to become passionate advocates for Rotary's service-oriented goals.

Past District Governor Vicente “Vince” J. Carlos, Member, Membership Committee; Co-Chair, RI Melbourne Convention 2023. In profound recognition of his valuable contributions in reviewing proposed new members to ensure that the Club maintains its high standard of membership and integrity. Equally important, PDG Vince’s active and passionate campaign to draw attendance to the RI Melbourne Convention has resulted in an impressive representation by RCM members to the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne, Australia where the Philippine delegation has left an imposing and lasting impression on other Rotarians from across the globe.

Rtn. Raymond N. Davis – Chairman, Committee on People with Special Needs. In heartfelt recognition of his remarkable achievements as Chairman of the Committee on Individuals with Special Needs, particularly at the Hospicio de San Jose, he is commended for his unwavering compassion, dedication, and visionary leadership. His extraordinary efforts have brought about transformative changes in the lives of numerous individuals with special needs. Through his tireless work, he has provided a nurturing and inclusive environment, fostering their growth, development, and well-being. The Club expresses its deepest gratitude for his profound impact, which has inspired hope and created a brighter future for those in need.

Rtn. Emilio Gonzalez La'o for his active participation in the activities of the Disease Prevention and Treatment Committee in bringing cheers to children afflicted with cancer at the Philippine General Hospital and in the dental missions focused on providing dental care to children from economically depressed families.

Sec. Edwin H. Hernandez, Club Secretary and Chairman, Club Awards Committee was recognized for his dedication and self-effacing service in ensuring that Club records are in order, and that Board meetings are conducted properly and pursuant to the Constitution and By-Laws, and in assiduously preparing the minutes of meetings for the benefit of and authentication by the directors; and for professionally ensuring the proper recognition of the members’ significant participation and contribution in club activities.

Rtn. John Brian “JB” Pallasigue. In recognition of his service to the Club by actively being an Ambassador of Goodwill between the RCM and other Rotary Clubs in other parts of the world such as the Rotary Club of Singapore. His professionalism and graciousness are worthy representations of the values of the members of the RCM.

Rtn. Wilfedo “Willie” M. Peliño, Chairman, RCM Golf Cup; Asst. Treasurer, RCManila Foundation, Inc. Rtn. Willie was deservingly recognized for his sterling management and organization of the RCM Golf Cup, the maiden fund-raising activity of the RCManila Foundation which has raised much-needed resources in support of the RCM’s projects related to the Rotary Areas of Focus.

Rtn. Jordan M. Pizarras. In recognition of his service to the Club by sharing his talent and resources to help the RCManila Foundation achieve its noble mission and objectives. Rtn. Jordan has lent both his managerial skills and professional legal experience to provide valuable guidance and support to the RCManila Foundation, which in turn supported the various projects of the RCM.

Past Vice Pres. Fausto D.R. Preysler Jr., Chairman – Membership Committee. In grateful recognition of his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of our Club's membership. His dedicated service as the head of the committee responsible for reviewing and evaluating proposed new members has been instrumental in maintaining the quality and integrity of our esteemed Club. Sgt. At Arms NAGI ZEITOUNI, Chairman of the Sports Committee. In profound appreciation for his unwavering dedication and exceptional contributions to the Rotary Club of Manila. SAA and Chairman Nagi's remarkable efforts as the Chairman of the Sports Committee have resulted in the resounding success of the Sports Fellowship Day, where 38 members and 24 family members were brought together for a day of exhilarating sports activities. Past Director JOHN T. CENICA, Chairman of the Maternal and Child Health Committee. Past Asst. Sec. JOEL C. VALDES, Secretary, RCManila Foundation, Inc. In recognition of his active and tireless efforts in soliciting international partners to propose global grant projects that helped RCM launch projects in the areas of focus - Disease Prevention and Treatment. By bridging the gap in education, he has left an indelible impact on these communities, instilling hope and forever changing their futures. Rami has stood as a pillar of support, actively engaging in all Disaster and Emergency Relief activities of the Club, particularly aiding typhoon victims. He also played a pivotal role in the highly successful Sports Fellowship Day, fostering camaraderie and unity among club members, and Rami's expertise and leadership in the Digitalization project have been instrumental in its resounding success. Thanksgiving and recognition of members culminated with a brief message of thanks by Pres. Hermie Esguerra for an exceedingly productive service year, which was followed by the adjournment of the 44th weekly membership meeting.
