105th Anniversary Dinner | 40th WMM

The Rotary Club of Manila celebrated its 105th anniversary dinner and 40th Weekly Membership Meeting on June 1, 2024, with messages from past governors, guests and President Alunan.

Program Hosts

The anniversary program was hosted by a pair of emcees, PD Issam Eldebs and guest emcee Zarri Gizelle.

Invocation

Setting the tone of the magical evening, former DTI Undersecretary Rtn. Abulgani "Gani" M. Macatoman led the recitation of a universal prayer.

Philippine National Anthem

Rotary Members and guests took a position of respect as they sang the Philippine National Anthem, which was led by the RCM World Famous Chorale.

Rotary Hymn

The singing of the RCM Hymn acquired more meaning, with its music and lyrics filling the venue as the Club celebrates its 105th year of service.

Opening Production Number

The evening was at once energized with an opening number featuring Filipino traditional dances with a modern twist, featuring exciting acrobatic moves.

Acknowledgment of Guests

Club Secretary Edwin H. Hernandez acknowledged the VIPs, foreign and local Rotary dignitaries, and special guests who attended the 105th anniversary celebration.

Welcome Remarks

Rodolfo "Rudy" P. Bediones (Past District Governor 2018-2019 and RCM Past President 2013-2014) delivered the Welcome Remarks.

Messages from Past District Governors

Past District Governor (2015-2016) and RCM Past President (2012-2013) Roberto "Obet" M. Pagdanganan shared his views as RCM celebrates a momentous anniversary. He said: "It is our obligation to set examples for others, just as we learn from them too." He further remarked: "Let it be our mission to improve our ways, ever mindful of our core values, principles, cultures, and traditions."

Vicente "Vince" J. Carlos (Past District Governor 1990-1991, RCM Past President 1982-1983, and former Tourism Secretary) spoke about the club's history and expressed optimism for its future. "The Rotary Club of Manila is steeped in tradition, guided by its core values of service, fellowship, integrity, and respect for authority," he declared.

District 3810 Governor Lilian "Lai" H. dela Cruz praised the Rotary Club of Manila’s enduring role as a leader and beacon in the district. "For more than a century," she said, "RCM members have provided impactful service projects to the needy with collaboration from different entities."

Messages from Guests

Sr. Martha A. Gamolo, D.C., Administrator of the Hospicio de San Jose, expressed her gratitude for "the assistance and support of the Rotary Club of Manila" over the years.

Past President’s Message/Celebratory Toast

105 years of Rotary Service in the Philippines and in Asia certainly deserves a Celebratory Toast, which was led by PP Boy Guevara, who was joined by the Club’s past presidents who attended the event.

Closing Remarks

RCM President Rafael "Raffy" M. Alunan III inspired the audience with his call to action. "As we look to the future," he said, "let us carry forward the spirit of Rotary with renewed vigor and commitment. Together, let us light the path of service, compassion, and leadership for future generations."
