Henry S. Go

Profile of Henry S. Go, a director of the Rotary Club of Manila for Rotary Year 2024-2025, who tells how he joined and served the club.

Henry S. Go

For the past 36 years, I've been happily married and proud to be a parent to two sons and a daughter. Throughout my career, which has lasted over four decades, I've worked in various industries, from manufacturing to marketing; from foods to copper; from strategy formulation to loan packaging. Right now, I'm deeply involved in managing two businesses that have been in my family for a while.

My academic journey started back in 1979 when I got my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from De La Salle University in Taft, Manila. Then, in 1984, I obtained my MBA from Ateneo de Manila in Makati. Before I joined the Rotary Club of Manila (RCM), I was actively involved in several civic and business organizations, like the Philippine Constitution Association, Asia Society Philippines, and the Chinese Filipino Business Club.

My connection with RCM followed a pretty traditional path. I was proposed by the then President, Jackie Rodriguez, and I attended three meetings as a guest before my application for membership went through a committee review and got approved. I was inducted during the time when the late RCM President Bobby Joseph was in charge, and Secretary Edwin Hernandez was also inducted at the same time as me. At first, I served as a Star Rotarian and later, on the recommendation of Secretary Reginald Yu, I became the Assistant Secretary. Because I never missed a meeting and actively participated in the weekly membership gatherings, I was recognized with a Perfect Attendance plaque for that Rotary year.

When Chito Zaldarriaga took over as president, I was reappointed as Assistant Secretary and continued my perfect attendance record. Under the leadership of Hermie Esquerra, I joined the Pasig River cleanup committee chaired by Junjie Vasquez. I was tasked to get the barangay chairmen from Manila Chinatown to involve in RCM's Pasig River clean-up initiative. With the support DENR through PP Jackie Rodriguez, we managed to hand over several hundred seedlings of the Palawan variety of Cherry Blossom trees to beautify the Pasig River and the esteros within Manila Chinatown.

In the current term, with President Raffy Alunan at the helm, I've been given the responsibility of the Attendance Committee. I've been working closely with Dr. Paul Koh to make sure that all Rotarians dutifully attend the weekly meetings. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the RCM membership for electing me as one of the Directors for the upcoming board term under President-Elect Jujut Enriquez.
