Beat Malnutrition through Collective Action

Abbott Laboratories and the Rotary Club of Manila are launching an initiative against malnutrition in Metro Manila through an MOU to be signed on November 28, 2024.

MALNUTRITION impacts one in three people globally, transcending age, region, and socioeconomic background. It is a silent crisis with devastating consequences— stunting children’s growth, impairing cognitive development, and weakening immunity. For adults, it reduces productivity and increases susceptibility to chronic diseases. As malnutrition continues to hinder progress toward global health equity, urgent action is needed.

Recognizing this critical issue, Abbott Laboratories and the Rotary Club of Manila (RCM) are launching a groundbreaking initiative to address malnutrition in Metro Manila. This collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to be signed on November 28, 2024, at the Manila Polo Club, marks a significant step toward tackling malnutrition at its roots in underserved communities. The program, a blend of malnutrition screening and nutrition education, aims to empower families with knowledge while identifying those in need of intervention. By combining Abbott’s global expertise in healthcare innovation with RCM’s commitment to service, the initiative aspires to create lasting, positive health outcomes.

At the heart of this effort is Dr. Jose Rodolfo V. Dimaano, Jr., Nutrition Medical Director for Asia Pacific at Abbott, whose leadership in the fight against malnutrition has been pivotal. Dr. Dimaano will share insights on Abbott’s ongoing global mission and the impactful work of the Center for Malnutrition Solutions. This center serves as a beacon for addressing malnutrition worldwide, leveraging science to develop practical and scalable solutions.

This partnership is a call to action—a reminder that no one should be left behind in the fight for health and well-being. By joining forces, Abbott and RCM exemplify what can be achieved through shared purpose and collaboration. As we gather to witness the launch of this initiative, let us commit to addressing malnutrition not just as a health crisis but as a moral imperative. Together, we can turn the tide, one community at a time.
