AVID Nye is a crisis communications specialist and veteran journalist whose four-decade career bridges high-level government strategy, corporate communications management, and international broadcast journalism. His professional journey reflects a deep expertise in developing narratives, analyzing complex issues, and managing crisis communications across the Asian media landscape.

Since January 2023, Nye has applied his strategic expertise as Strategic Communications Consultant for the National Security Council under the Office of the President in the Philippines. This role follows his tenure as Assistant Director General and Strategic Communications Head for the same agency, where he was responsible for high-stakes communication planning and execution.

Nye’s background in broadcast journalism is extensive, spanning roles in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and the Philippines. In Singapore, he served as a TV News Anchor and Producer for Channel NewsAsia. There, he anchored hourly international news and sports programs, conducted live interviews, and managed breaking news coverage. His composure and accuracy during critical events earned him the 2007 Mediacorp Award for Best Breaking News Coverage for his reporting on the One-Two-Go airline crash in Phuket, Thailand.

In Hong Kong, Nye worked as a TV News Anchor and Senior Sub-Editor for TVB Pearl, where he anchored primetime evening news and produced news packages.

His time in Beijing, China further expanded his international portfolio. He anchored BizChina, the flagship business program for CCTV 9 International, alongside hourly news and sports broadcasts. He also served as News Editor for the Global Times, editing front-page stories, and as an Anchor and Senior Sub-editor for the Blue Ocean Network’s program, "Media Watch."

His career in the Philippine media is equally robust. At ABS-CBN-2, Nye anchored The World Today and The World Tonight, covering presidential, political, and business beats. He worked as a News Presenter for the National Broadcasting Network and hosted the "Hot Seat" segment on Teledyaryo. His radio experience includes producing and anchoring "Sunrise" for DZRJ-AM, anchoring the DWFM Morning News, and early work as a reporter for the Radio Philippines Network covering police and economic beats. He was also a host and producer for the Maharlika Broadcasting System’s Good Morning Manila. His broadcast work in the Philippines was recognized with a nomination for Best News Anchor at the 1994 Catholic Mass Media Awards.

Parallel to his journalism career, Nye held significant corporate leadership roles. He served as Corporate Communications Director for Metro Pacific Corporation from 1995 to 1998 and for the Bank of Commerce from 1991 to 1994. During his time at the Bank of Commerce, he was an Awardee for Best Corporate Communications Campaign at the 1994 Catholic Mass Media Awards. Nye’s expertise has been sharpened through international training. He was twice selected as a Distinguished International Visitor by the U.S. Information Agency (USIA). In 1991, he trained in corporate communications strategies at major American institutions including Johnson & Johnson, Pacific Gas and Electric, Chevron, and Advertising Age magazine. In 1994, he returned to the U.S. to focus on broadcast news, training with CNN in Atlanta, KRON in San Francisco, KCAL in Los Angeles, and The Wall Street Journal TV Report in New York.

Beyond his professional practice, Nye contributes to the academic field as a senior lecturer. He teaches Journalism and Mass Communication at Far Eastern University and holds similar lecturing roles in Journalism, Advertising, and PR at the Lyceum of the Philippines University. He has also served as a Guest Instructor for the Broadcast Practicum at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

Nye holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Economics from Ateneo de Manila University.
