A Handshake That Opens a New Chapter for Rotary Club of Manila

A firm handshake between President-Elect Reggie Yu and fellow Manila Rotarian Bernd Schneider, Cluster General Manager of Raffles Makati and Fairmont Makati, symbolized more than friendship and fellowship — it effectively marked the beginning of a new chapter for the Rotary Club of Manila as it prepares for Rotary Year 2026–2027.

The meeting signaled the Club's transition to its new home for Weekly Membership Meetings at Fairmont Makati, beginning July 2026. Accompanying President-Elect Reggie were incoming Director for Club Administration Mike Albaña and incoming Club Treasurer Arik Carranceja. Welcoming them on behalf of Fairmont Makati were Ms. Ina Alcuaz-Garcia, Director of Events Management, and Ms. Kimmy Gran-Labayandoy, Cluster Director of Sales and Marketing.

The Rotary delegation was treated to a sumptuous luncheon that offered a preview of the dining experience that members and guests can expect during the Club's weekly gatherings. The visit also included an inspection of the elegant Fairmont Lounge, which is being eyed as the regular venue for the Club's Weekly Membership Meetings.

A highlight of the luncheon was the culinary presentation of Executive Chef John Beck, Mireio Restaurant's internationally acclaimed Director of Culinary. Renowned for his tenure at the Ritz-Carlton Mega Kuningan in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the historic Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois, Chef Beck brings more than two decades of global culinary expertise. His signature approach blends authentic regional flavors with refined, contemporary presentation — an experience that impressed the visiting Rotarians.

As Rotary Club of Manila prepares to embark on another year of service under the theme Rotary T.U.R.N. – Toward a Unified Rotary Nation, the partnership with Fairmont Makati promises a welcoming venue befitting the world's first Rotary club in Asia. The symbolic handshake between Reggie and Bernd served as a fitting reminder that strong partnerships often begin with a simple gesture — and can lead to lasting impact.
