Profile of Rtn. Dr. Dilip Deshmukh, charter member of the Rotary Club of Ichalkaranji and founder of the Rotary Deaf School.

Rtn Dr Dilip Deshmukh is a Charter Member of Rotary Club of Ichalkaranji (Dist 3170). He was Club President during 1986-87 & Asst Gov during 1998-99. He was the Founder & Chairman of Rotary Deaf School during 1981-96. He was the President of Medical Association of Ichalkaranji during 1995-96. He was the Convenor of International RYLA - The Deaf Way held in 2006, the first of its kind event in Rotary World.
After attending the International Conference ‘The Deaf Way’ as a paper presenter hosted by Gallaudet University, Washington D.C in July 1989; he realized the importance of Sign Language. Then as A ‘Rotary Volunteer ‘ he has organized orientation course on ‘Sign Language & Bilingualism in Deaf Education’ in India as well as in Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, Russia & Nigeria. He has written a book on this vital subject, which is the only book written by an Indian author.
He is a co-investigator of Indo USA Research Project to identify genes causing ‘Non Syndromic Hereditary Hearing Impairment ‘. He is conferred upon by prestigious award ‘Service Above Self’ by Rotary International. He is a Paul Harris Fellow.
