President’s Corner

Last week, the pride of our club, our very own VPE/VP Babe Romualdez, in his capacity as Special Envoy of the Philippines to the USA, discussed thoroughly the present state of US-Philippine relations and how we could bring back that kind of warmness we are used to.

As for updates within our club, last November 19, 2016, our Rotaract club, the Rotaract Club of Manila held a successful block screening of “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” at the SM Aura Premier, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

The days after, November 20-21, 2016, SDG Frank Evaristo, PP Francis Juico, PD Ed Lee, PD Ner Lonzaga, Secretary Ning Lopez, Rtn. Thad Llamzon and I attended the Anniversary Ball of our sister club, the Rotary Club of Kowloon East. Together with us was our ever reliable Executive Secretary Anna Kun Toledo who documented the blow by blow accounts of our sojourn in Hong Kong.

Updates from around the district include the participation of CoS Cesar Ubaldo at the Governor’s Visit of the Rotary Club of Manila Bay at the Tiara Hotel last November 17, 2016 and during the evening of that same day, he likewise attended the 3rd Induction and 2nd Handover Ceremonies of the Rotary Club of España Manila at the Philam Homes Clubhouse in Quezon City where my classmate, ASP Wacky Arca, was inducted as President for RY 2016-2017.

Three days later, November 20, 2016, our district launched the End Polio Fund Drive in celebration of The Rotary Foundation’s 100 Years at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila and this event was hosted by the Rotary Club of Ermita Manila.

Two days later, November 22, 2016, IPDG Obet Pagdanganan, PDG Vince Carlos, DGN Rudy Bediones and CoS Cesar Ubaldo attended the 21st Charter Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Manila Metro at the Spiral International Buffet of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City.

A day later, November 23, 2016, CoS Cesar Ubaldo and SDG/Dir. Albert Alday attended the Governor’s Visit and later, Induction of the Rotary Club of J.P. Laurel Malacañang at the Bayview Park Hotel in Manila where my classmate, ASP Cathy Tindoy, was inducted as President for RY 2016-2017.

Today, we welcome Dr. Dilip Deshmukh, Founder and Chairman of the Rotary Deaf School, as he gives a talk on “Sign Language and Bilingualism in Deaf Education”.

I look forward to your cooperation as we endeavor to make our stars shine this Rotary Year 2016-2017 through meaningful projects and fellowships that will strengthen the bonds of Asia’s First Rotary Club.
