It's Hours Before Valentine's Day
Dr. Elias D. Adamos says Valentine's Day should also be a day of loving thyself and offers six ways to love and care for yourself.
Would you take better care of yourself. Would you be kinder to yourself. Would you be more forgiving of your human imperfections, if you realized your best friend was yourself. Who is always with you everywhere. Who is on your side when others are unfair. And tell me, who will never let you down in any situation. Who will always see you get your share. And that's why I am a best friend to myself. And I take me out whenever I feel low. And I make my life as happy as a best friend would. I'm as nice to me as anyone I know. — Helen Reddy (born 1941, Australian-American singer and actress) and Raymond Charles Burton (born 1944, Australian singer-songwriter), “Best Friend” from Airport 1975
When the last day of January finally turns to the first day of February, everybody looks forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day. It’s a day to show our love to a special someone, significant other, loved ones and family. But Valentine’s Day is not only a day of chocolates and roses for others and for that special someone. It should also be a day of loving thyself. It is a day to celebrate love’s greatest gift – your own life – YOURSELF.
Why is it important to love yourself?
Loving yourself is synonymous to believing in your own self; on what you can do and on what you can achieve. Loving yourself gives you self-confidence, dignity and self-worth. When you are truly in love with yourself, you become happy, satisfied, and confident. You stop worrying and you stop comparing yourself to others because you find yourself endowed with uniqueness and beauty. You begin to extend your love. You get out of yourself. You start to affect others and invite them to your happy life. As they say: You cannot give what you do not have. It thus amounts to saying that you can give love and have the capacity to love, once you are able to love and understand yourself.
Ways to love and care for yourself
This Valentine’s Day, pamper yourself. You deserve the reward! Have a happy and meaningful Valentine’s Day!
1. Start each day in a positive tone. Tell yourself something that can make you smile.
2. Now that CoV-19 is still a public health issue and even when the issue finally dies down, nourish yourself with healthy foods and drinks that can make you healthy and boost your immune system. Always stay healthy. Think young.
3. Move your gorgeous body and enjoy it every single day. Stand before a mirror and just admire the beautiful you.
4. Don’t believe in the inner critic in you. It slows you down and it just stops you from living a full life. Believe in yourself. YOU CAN DO IT!
5. Surround yourself with positive people. The people who love you and who’ll say how amazing you are.
6. Don’t compare yourself to others. Compete only with your own self. Improve!
