President's Corner
President Jackie Rodriguez praises the Tourism Awards Day and previews the coming weeks' speakers, a membership drive and a singing challenge from the Manila Elks Club.
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Last week’s activities were very special. Trust that I liked very much the whole presentation of our Tourism Awards Day. This was an amazing day. It showed the continuing leadership of our club in the tourism field as well as our importance and function in inspiring different facets and agencies. Congratulations and kudos to our President-Elect Bobby Joseph. You did a great job. Our program committee headed by PP Jimmie Policarpio continues to give us the very best of available speakers. This week, we have the Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Secretary Eduardo Año, who is represented by Usec. Bernardo Florece, Jr. We shall have the opportunity to look into the workings of our LGU’s nationwide as well as inquire on the situation, nationally, of the feared Corona Virus.
Next week, we have Quinito Henson. The Dean of Sportswriters will speak and elucidate on our current sports situation as he give us a wrap up on the recent ASEAN Games. We shall also award the new, annual, Rotary Club of Manila Future Sports Heroes of the Philippines. The guest speaker on the 19th of March 2020 is the Secretary of the Department of National Defense, Delfin Lorenzana. He is expected to discuss the VFA at length. On the 26th of March 2020, we give honor to Amb. Haneda as the Rotary Club of Manila Ambassador of the Year. We expect him to speak on the current high level relationship between both countries and the continuing of the great efforts of JICA in the Philippines.
We continue to heed the desire of the club to grow its membership. Please make an effort towards this goal. We need to be at 250 members. There is a need for twenty good members of RCM standards.
There is a challenge from the Manila Elks Club for another return battle of our singers. The last challenge ended up in a draw. We were blindsided by the use of professional singers by the Elks, but, our very own, Oscar, Teddy, Rudy and Thad brought the house down. We clearly won. These members of the World Famous Chorale really performed very well and we had a great time. The tentative date is April 2, 2020. It is my hope Co-Chairman Benny Laguesma is ok with this.
Best,
Jackie
