President's Corner

President Bobby Joseph reports on the drive to reach 250 members, the new Circle of Centennial Rotary Clubs member Seattle 4, and a JCI Makati project.

Dear Colleagues in RCM,

Our club is now on double time to increase members! Our ideal number is 250. When the Membership Committee approves seven (7) new members, we will be 210! I thank the members and officers who are all out to get qualified recruits. We are setting up more activities to keep the new members motivated in contributing to the growth of the club.

On February 18, 2021, see you at 5:00 PM at The Heritage Hotel Manila in Pasay City in another face to face meeting. We will arrange a Zoom facility for our members who cannot join us. Invites are open to Star Rotarians, Past Presidents, Past District Governors and energized members.

We are happy that PDG Rudy Bediones, PDG Vince Carlos, PDG Alex Cureg and PDG Obet Pagdanganan will help convince nearly 70 members to contribute to The Rotary Foundation for the Paul Harris’ Fellow! I thank them in advance. We all have to get 100% of our RCM members to become Paul Harris Fellows. A memorandum is being prepared for all District Governors to support this project.

Thank you for the swift response for members to raise funds for the operation of PVP Lance Masters due to his accident.

I had a meeting with Star Rtn. Lance Tan, the current President of JCI Makati. We will have a project of training 200 Barangays with respect to Mushroom Growing Livelihood on the morning of February 18, 2021. This project is in cooperation with the Pasay City Government, JCI Makati and Rotary Club of Manila. We plan to have more outreach projects during and after my term. A memorandum of understanding between JCI Makati and the Rotary Club of Manila will be signed by both us on February 18, 2021, 5:00 pm at The Heritage Hotel Manila in Pasay City. We assure you that both organizations will not be financially compromised nor will any party have any personal financial gain.

The Circle of Centennial Rotary Clubs has this day to celebrate! We now have four (4) clubs as members, namely, the Rotary Club of Manila, the Rotary Club of Calcutta, the Rotary Club of Shanghai and now, the Rotary Club of Seattle 4, the mother club of the Rotary Club of Manila! More Centennial Clubs will join. This was the dream of then President Jackie Rodriguez and thanks to a very industrious PD Nick Locsin, Chairman of the International Relations Committee. It was an honor and privilege for me to meet the head of our mother club, Rotary Club of Seattle 4 President Jeff Borek. Others present were DG Cathy Gibson, Rotary Club of Seattle 4 IPP Kim Moore, Rotary Club of Shanghai IPP Terri Lau, Rotary Club of Shanghai PP Andrew Hill, Rotary Club of Calcutta PP Saumen Ray, Rotary Club of Manila IPP Jackie Rodriguez and Rotary Club of Manila PD Nick Locsin. We had over an hour of pleasantries and sharing of information. It was a productive meeting as we agreed to pursue the project by inviting Centennial Rotary Clubs and the focus includes the strategies to improve Retention and Membership by keeping the members motivated. More projects means more Young Members!

One question to you, my fellow Rotarians, “Has Rotary made you a better person ?”

Salamat! Mabuhay!

Your Servant President, Robert Lim Joseph, Jr. President RY 2020-2021 (101st President)
