Participation of the Rotaract Clubs in the International Youth Day Celebration Program

The Rotary Club of Calcutta planned a cross-country interactive session on August 12, 2021 with Rotaract Clubs on the role of Rotaract in peace and resilience.

Concept Note on the topic Role of Rotaract: Peace and Resilience in the Post Pandemic Era

Peace has been one of Rotary’s top goals almost since the day Paul Harris founded it in 1905. In 1914, the convention adopted a resolution proposed by the Rotary Club of Hamilton, Ontario, that the International Association of Rotary Clubs lend its influence to the maintenance of peace among the nations of the world. In 1921, with memories of World War I fresh in their minds, delegates to the Rotary International Convention in Edinburgh, Scotland, incorporated into Rotary’s constitution the goal to aid in the advancement of international peace and goodwill through a fellowship of business and professional men of all nations united in the Rotary ideal of service. The Rotaract Club – a global movement of young leaders under the folds of Rotary - comprise youth in the age category of 18-30 yrs who are passionate about service for the society. However they need to be mentored and oriented on meaningful humanitarian goals so that their energy could be channelized towards specific development objectives. They need to be triggered to ideate, preach and advocate for peace and to initiate actions for raising community resilience through networks for cross context sharing and learning. CONNECT IS THE KEY WORD.

With this in the backdrop, Rotary Club of Calcutta intends to have a cross country interactive session with Rotaract Clubs to have a sharing on country specific challenges – with reference to peace and resilience and how Rotaractors can bounce in ideas for building the optimal conditions for peaceful and resilient societies through Club specific initiatives or by partnering with parent Rotary Clubs. The role of an eminent professional from the development sector is imperative in exposing them to the context and the different perspectives of global peace and resilience.
