President’s Corner
President Chito Zaldarriaga updates members on the second wave of Odette fundraising through the RCManila Foundation and previews PD Art Lopez’s talk on the hotel industry.

Greetings Fellow RCM brothers!
As we observe the OMICRON numbers going down, I hope everyone is safe and well as you read this. Nowadays, it is almost rare that one does NOT have a CoVid case within the family. Thankfully, this strain is, by and large, not as deadly – but still, we should all take extra care. Booster shots are the order of the day and masks as well as physical distancing should still be the norm.
We have gone through the process of launching the 2nd wave of our Super Typhoon Odette Fundraising, this time through the mechanism of coursing the donations through the RCManila Foundation, Inc. As chartered, the funds raised by the Foundation is vetted and passed on to the Rotary Club of Manila as the implementing arm of the project. This is how it was envisioned and this is the way it is happening.
We will have an update from District Governor Anna Bumagat of Rotary International District 3860 who has been closely coordinating with our own RCManila Foundation, Inc. Chairman PE/PVP Hermie Esguerra and Disaster Relief Operations Committee Chairman IAS Mike Albaña for the on-the-ground logistic details for providing Super Typhoon Odette Rotary families. This time, potable drinking water as well as shelter assistance are being made available.
Our own debonaire PD Arthur “Art” M. Lopez is going to share with us the real status of the Hotel Industry. He is the current President of the Philippine Hotel Owners Association. Let us hope his talk will give us an insightful insider’s view as to how the industry is doing and what measures the players are taking to ride out this very very rough ride.
Stay well my dear brothers, may God continue to protect and bless us all!
Humbly yours in Rotary, FSZ
