Hon. Richard Elzingre Bachmann
Chairperson of the Philippine Sports Commission and guest of honor and speaker at the November 9, 2023 meeting.

The country’s fundamental law provides that “(t)he State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions, and amateur sports, including training for international competition, to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry.” Towards this end, Republic Act 6847 created the Philippine Sports Commission as a “regulatory national agency with the responsibility of coordinating all amateur sports development programs and institutions in the Philippines and formulating policies on said programs/institutions.”
Sports development must indeed be pursued and encouraged, for it helps in elevating qualities like discipline, determination, teamwork and a passion for fitness in the psyche of a nation. Kabalita
