AS Rotary Year 2025–2026 draws to a close, the final regular Weekly Membership Meeting of the Rotary Club of Manila carries a significance that transcends routine club business. It is a moment of reflection, gratitude, and recognition—a gathering where we look back not merely at what was accomplished, but at the spirit that animated those accomplishments.

At the heart of this occasion is the valedictory address of President Raoul C. Creencia, whose leadership has guided the club under the inspiring theme, “Our Destiny. Our Legacy. Rotary.” Those four words were more than a slogan. They became a call to action.

Destiny speaks of purpose. Legacy speaks of permanence. Rotary speaks of service. Together, they challenged every member to think beyond the immediate and embrace the enduring responsibility of stewardship. Throughout the year, President Raoul reminded us that the Rotary Club of Manila is not simply an organization we belong to; it is an institution we are privileged to inherit and duty bound to strengthen.

Leadership is often measured by projects completed, funds raised, memberships gained, or awards received. These are important metrics, and under President Raoul's stewardship, the club has much to celebrate. Yet the true measure of leadership lies elsewhere. It lies in the ability to inspire others to believe in a shared mission, to foster unity amidst differing views, and to ensure that the club remains stronger at the end of a term than it was at its beginning.

By that measure, President Raoul's year has been a success.

The annual bestowment of club awards serves as a reminder that Rotary's greatest achievements are never the work of one person alone. Every award presented represents countless hours of volunteer service, quiet acts of generosity, and an unwavering commitment to Service Above Self. It is fitting that these recognitions are bestowed during the final meeting of the Rotary year, for they affirm a fundamental truth: Rotary thrives because ordinary people choose to do extraordinary things for others.

Yet even as we honor the awardees, we must not overlook the example set by the man who led them.

President Raoul's service was marked by dedication that often went unseen. Behind every successful meeting, every completed project, every challenge resolved, and every difficult decision made was a leader who willingly carried the weight of responsibility. Rotary leadership is not glamorous. It demands patience, sacrifice, diplomacy, and countless hours that never appear in official reports. It requires placing the welfare of the club above personal convenience.

For this, the Rotary Club of Manila owes President Raoul a debt of gratitude.

We thank him for his indefatigable service. We thank him for the countless hours spent ensuring that the club remained focused on its mission. We thank him for his steady hand during moments of uncertainty and his unwavering belief in the capacity of Rotarians to rise to every challenge. Most importantly, we thank him for reminding us that our destiny is not something we inherit—it is something we create through our actions.

As one Rotary year concludes and another begins, we are reminded that leadership is temporary, but legacy endures. The projects will eventually be completed. The reports will be archived. The awards will be displayed. What remains are the values strengthened, the friendships forged, the lives touched, and the example left behind.

That is the essence of legacy.

President Raoul Creencia now joins the distinguished ranks of past presidents whose chapters have become part of the continuing story of Asia's First Rotary Club. His term will be remembered not only for what was accomplished, but for the spirit in which those accomplishments were pursued.

As Rotarians, we now inherit the responsibility to carry that legacy forward.

For in the end, our destiny is indeed our legacy.

And our legacy is Rotary.
