Signing Off, Serving On.

President's Message

SINCE assuming the Presidency of Asia’s First Rotary Club, I have often felt as though I had taken on a second full-time calling alongside the exacting demands of my law practice. Yet I chose to embrace the journey—one meeting, one project, one fellowship activity, and one opportunity to serve at a time.

What unfolded was an extraordinary and deeply fulfilling year—one that stretched me, humbled me, and reminded me of the immense privilege of serving alongside accomplished men of uncommon generosity, talent, and purpose.

To lead a club such as Rotary Club of Manila is both a profound honor and a formidable responsibility. The role demands far more than presiding over meetings or representing the Club at official functions. It requires patience in moments of difficulty, resilience amid competing demands, and the steady resolve to inspire, unite, and mobilize a diverse fellowship of accomplished individuals behind causes far greater than ourselves.

Throughout the year, I learned that Rotary leadership is not about personal recognition. It is about listening, encouraging, building consensus, and creating opportunities for others to lead and shine. It is about bringing together the time, talent, resources, and goodwill of our members to transform worthy ideas into meaningful action.

It is also about leading by example -- doing what must be done, even when one must begin alone, so that others may be inspired to follow. Above all, it is about redefining leadership through friendship: nurturing trust, strengthening fellowship, and reminding one another that our greatest accomplishments are those we achieve together.

The demands were real: planning projects, mobilizing members, managing limited time and resources, and sustaining enthusiasm amid the many professional and personal commitments of fellow Manila Rotarians. But these challenges made every accomplishment more meaningful.

I take particular fulfillment in the flagship projects we were able to launch and advance during the year-- initiatives that reflected our Club’s continuing commitment to service, compassion, and lasting impact. To see our collective efforts translate into assistance for communities, opportunities for deserving students, support for peacebuilding advocates, and hope for those in need has been among the most rewarding experiences of my life.

I am likewise deeply grateful that our work has been recognized, with our Club being named among the Most Outstanding Rotary Clubs in the District, and with the honor bestowed upon me as among the Most Outstanding Rotary Club Presidents. These recognitions belong not to one person, but to every member, officer, committee chair, partner, and friend who gave generously of their time, talent, and resources throughout the year.

As we conclude this Rotary year, I do so with gratitude and a deep sense of fulfillment. We have demonstrated that when we work together with purpose, discipline, and fellowship, we can accomplish far more than any one of us could achieve alone.

This year has given deeper meaning to our motto:

Our Destiny. Our Legacy. Rotary.

Our destiny is not something we merely await; it is something we shape -- through every act of service we choose to undertake, every need we respond to, and every life we seek to uplift. Our legacy, in turn, will not be measured simply by the offices we held or the years we served, but by the lives we touched, the projects we sustained, and the values we entrusted to those who will carry Rotary forward after us.

The journey was not always easy. There were demands to meet, challenges to overcome, and moments when the weight of responsibility was deeply felt. Yet, through it all, the journey remained profoundly meaningful. It has been one of the most demanding, humbling, and fulfilling experiences of my life.

To have served this Club has been a privilege beyond measure. I leave this office with a heart full of gratitude: for the trust that everyone has given me, for the friendships shared, and for the opportunity to serve alongside fellow Rotarians whose commitment continues to inspire me.

As I now conclude this chapter, I do so with confidence that the best of our Club’s story is still being written.
